I honestly haven’t watched much for MC videos on Yootube, just a couple i can’t find right now (maybe from CanyonChasers??) my buddy / riding coach sent on cornering. I’m looking to improve confidence and smoothness through corners, speed is not my goal. Still have my learners license, and under 1000 km in so far, but I’m a “Slow is smooth, smooth is fast” kinda guy anyway.

I did replace my badly cracked carb boots and cleaned all 4 carbs last week (now that’s fun, er, monotonous!) and my new tires showed up today, so I’m a bit ahead of the weather in my excitement to get riding again and take my road test for my full license.

That's awesome, and sounds like you're going through it in a reasonable and cautious manner. That'd be my plan as well.

Does Canada have license restrictions/classes like EU does? I know they have the beginner (A2 I think?) license that restricts power on bikes for new riders for the first year or two, and that a lot of bikes specifically get tuned to that level. Anything like that up north?

No power / size restriction here for learners, unless you do your parking lot skills test or road test on too small of a bike (under 200cc), then you are limited to 200cc. Basic (liability) insurance premiums are based solely on CC’s too.

Since I have a (class 5, passenger vehicle) drivers license, I wrote a test to get my class 6 (motorcycle) learners license, where I was restricted to 60kph, riding only with a class 6 coach in direct sight, no passengers, no night riding…

I then took a parking lot skills test, consisting of slaloms, tight turns from start, hard braking, riding straight at a walking pace, etc. No feet down when moving, no stalls, no skids, no hitting cones…

Actually, I took three of those because I was ill prepared for the first, a nervous wreck on the second, and the third time was the charm. I rode about 80 km in the parking lot at my work to prepare, and that had it’s challenges too. But I got through it and passing that test means I can ride solo, and am no longer speed restricted.

Next is the road test where they follow me on a course through town and a bit of highway riding.

If I pass that test in May, I have my class 6 motorcycle license with no restriction. If I fail, I have to try again and pass before my learners expires in June, otherwise I start the process all over from scratch. Not something I want to happen.

I’m learning on an ‘82 Yamaha XJ1100 Maxim, not the easiest or most nimble learner bike, but power is well mannered and the price was right. (It was given to me, and I fixed the many electrical gremlins, among other things)

Oh wow. Way more complex than down here. Sounds like you're learning and progressing though! How are you liking it so far?

The last couple weeks of my riding season after I passed that skills test were enjoyable, riding was feeling more natural and I became more comfortable and relaxed.

Before that, I very nearly threw in the towel a couple times.

It's a bit of a different sensation, for sure. Took my brain a bit to wrap around counter steering, especially. Even though I don't technically need too, if I get a bike again I will be enrolling in more classes. I never did get totally comfortable, and that was what ultimately made me get rid of the bike. Take your time, and keep taking classes to hone those skills and build comfort.

Rattlecan turned out decently enough. Cured fully and 2k clearcoated. Will be wrapping portions of it next week. Will be a bit before the glass goes back on. Redoing the braking system, then a fluid flush and other general maintenance.

Also finally got my new X-Lite delivered. This thing is sweet.

Understandable once you're not a beginner anymore. Once you are moving into more advanced stuff I think Ryan from Fortnine is the only one I mentioned that gets into anything interesting. It's not the rehashed experienced yammering of the Revzilla guys, or the newbie excitement of Dork in the Road. He delves into deeper/more abstract topics of the industry.

Not giving up on it. I'll get it fixed back up over the course of this year. Too much going on with work and the business so that's why I bought the track bike that was essentially ready to go.

Ah, I follow. It's a way to get the fix while it's being built back up.... you really are an addict. Dealer's low on coke so I'll get some heroin to tide me over.

Exactly lol. Once this is sorted fully in the coming weeks I'll put it in storage and pull the CBR around and start breaking it down. Have to pull the motor and send it to get the lower crankcase tigged properly. Then it'll need a new stator, rear subframe, and I'll source some secondhand track fairings. Will probably have someone spray those for me professionally....this DIY fiberglass repair/rattlecan spray job was a learning process. My #1 takeaway....never do that again and pay someone.

Yeah, I figured you were way braver than me when it came to sanding and touching up fiberglass. My ass crack started itching just thinking about all those terrible dust fibers everywhere. :goingcrazy:

I learn more by completely destroying a process than I ever will by reading how to do it online. Structurally that glass is in perfect condition now. Aesthetically? Still loads of imperfections but idc..it's a track bike afterall!

Waiting on my seat pad and tank grips then off to a local shop to dial in the suspension. Slowly getting there. Also sold the wrecked CBR for a decent chunk of coin despite the damage.

I found the end of the video to be well done and quite entertaining. It also explains perfectly why I'll not be buying one. :D

Nah. All set with the ADV thing. Planning on picking up an xDiavel at some point.

I worked at a Ducati dealer, that was a proper depiction. My favorite was a doctor that came in wanting our only Pikes Peak Multi with every single accessory we could load onto it. Something like $35k worth and he forks $20k in cash over and a card ‘put the difference on the plastic’. Didnt even flinch.

What a painful video to watch. Like a continuous click bait with no substance whatsoever. I will never watch another one of that guys videos. Horrible.
That said the Duc is a good bike according to people that actually review bikes. I tend to stick with Japanese, it's what I know.
My friend has an Aprilia Toureg 660 and he loves the thing. If I wanted a low weight adventure touring/do it all type bike that was not going to be too much of a handful off road, it would be a great choice. Cool electronics package in it also.
    There is no perfect bike

Ok, so I have a question for experienced buyers out there. How much of a deal is it actually possible to get on a new bike? I have terrible luck/skill when it comes to getting anybody to take money off a price, and I just want to know what kind of wiggle room I can shoot for on a 2022 bike in the next couple of months.

Pic below is of the bike with the price advertised at full $7,199 MSRP and fine print states that "Advertised pricing excludes applicable taxes title and licensing, dealer set up, destination, reconditioning and are subject to change without notice. Pricing may exclude any added parts, accessories or installation unless otherwise noted. Sale prices include all applicable offers. "

I plan to contact by email and request an itemized breakdown of the fees in addition to the best price out the door, minus tax as I will pay that separately. I mainly want to do this because of the dealer set up fee. I won't pay it on this bike. There just is no set up.

Currently refreshing my 2005 zx10r. It’s getting a valve adjustment, new plugs, new engine cover gaskets, new oil pan gasket, new exhaust port gaskets, air filter service, brake fluid flush, new silicone radiator hoses, coolant flush, oil change. It’s got about 104,000 miles on it so some TLC is in order
