I have a limited coming in, and I wanted to ask how you identify which options are installed port side and which are not. Two on my truck in question are floor mats, and a tonneau cover, which I think are both port-side.

Also, does "port side" mean they are installed by the dealership or are they installed at some point between the factory and the dealership?

FIO = factory installed options. these are usually the big expensive packages you can find when you build a toyota on the toyota website (not including gst or set websites)

PIO = port installed options are usually the accessories you can add on the toyota website

DIO = dealer installed options are usually those PIO you can add after the fact thru the parts department (not advised since the cost is way more than PIO (usually 2x the cost of a PIO cost) and really expensive to add FIO (usually 3x-5x or more)

I wanted to change PIOs and DIPs (Bed Extender, Coin Holder/Ash Tray, Tote Bag, Console Safe) and was told I couldn’t.
At the end of the day, when comparing it with the total costs, I preferred to pay for it than waiting for the perfect build.

One other layer to the question: are the port side options installed at the dealership or when the vehicle gets off the train at the rail yard?

It depends on where the distributor has their staging area set up to install. Gulf states toyota installs their "port" options at a few of their facilities, but all port options are installed before they're shipped to dealers.

Thanks, that's super helpful. I have a truck that's been at the rail yard since Friday with no known holds, and I am wondering if they are waiting to install the tonneau cover port side, hence the delay.

also to add, right now with how inflexible toyota is on PIO and FIO options, what dealers get from the regional port is what they get. its not like the old days where they were building vehicles without issues and parts. i waited 6 months for a certain unicorn FIO/PIO request (no avs/hud, no auto running boards, paint protect film, bed mat, floor liners, trd running board, no spray in bed liner) that after 6 months and not even a glimmer of hope, we gave up waiting took the first platinum in blueprint that came along that had some of the PIO we wanted.

and still 9 months later we are waiting for the truck to leave QC hold since just before xmas, never mind the face it didnt get built until dec-08 when it was suppose to be built turkey week.

you best bet is to find a build as close to you want but dont compromise on packages but compromise on accessories.

most or if not all accessories can be added after the fact either by yourself or use a after market suitable sub :)

When I first read the title, I thought there were options to add to just the left side of your truck...

Thats normal! It usually takes them at least a day to install port options, so depending on which ones your truck is coming with, you might see some movement on it today or tomorrow.

My Toyota 86 sat at the port in Houston for 9 days before it was shipped to my dealer in Dallas back in 2017
