Has anyone found a set of power brakes for the 3rd Gen Tundra?

    Like a big brake kit?

Pretty sure my brakes are "powered" already...

There have been a few threads mentioning big brake kits fitting in X-sized wheels.

Power not powered. Power brakes, power stop, big brakes, they’re synonymous. But thanks for your response.

Looks good, but $$$. Stockers work fine for me.

That does seem like an obnoxious amount of money for just the fronts.

"Special order" probably means they don't even bother to stock these things but build them on a case basis when someone places the order. At that price this kit will not be in very high demand.

If they were ceramic, that price seems reasonable.

    Lots of stuff!
I got a big brake kit for my TDI, when I was pulling my trailer, many years ago. Was about $8k installed but it sure did stop! The kit was built around Baer brakes.

When towing, I noticed that the Tundra uses the engine to slow the combo on descents and the brakes feel great when stopping the Airstream when needed. I think you have to be in one of the Tow modes for the towing magic to happen.

LOL... the Tundra could easily pull both of those together. But that's pretty cool.

I could put the car in the back of the Tundra and pull the trailer.

    Here. There. Everywhere.

PowerBrakes are very expensive, but remember the context...

It's generally an upgrade you do in one or two scenarios:
    1. You've added a thousand pounds of gear and you're constantly lugging it around. Case in point with @ryanwgregg's reference to Expedition Overland.
    2. You're constantly towing at or near the max towing capacity.
In either case, spending $3k - $4k on a brake upgrade is not entirely outside the realm of reason. Especially, if you're in scenario #1 above and are already lugging $5k to $8k worth of gear plus another $3k to $4k worth of armor & winches around all the time. :)

    A cheaper upgrade option:
You can always upgrade your rotors & pads only and typically see a significant increase in stopping power. I.E. Upgrade to drilled & vented/slotted rotors of the correct diameter & bolt pattern and couple that with ceramic pads. Example: Rock Auto is showing the R1 Concepts Model # 63176162L Drilled & Slotted rotor is compatible with the 3rd Gen Tundra. Looks like you can pick up those rotors for a couple hundred each. Add in some high quality ceramic pads and it'd be a worthy upgrade at a much cheaper price.

    My 2 cents.

Thanks all! Incredibly helpful. We are full-time Overlanders so we definitely need the upgrade.

I've been modding vehicles for 20 years, and I've never heard of big brake kits referred to as power brakes or power [stop]. Good to know, I guess.

I have 60 and 70 year old vehicles that don't have powered brakes.

Yup, just brands. The Power brakes in the subject line had me going for awhile until I found them with a search. I had never heard of that brand. As for Power Stop, they have been around for quite a while selling replacement brake parts like rotor and pad kits. They have several levels, regular duty with plain rotors and "extreme" with drilled and slotted rotors, etc. I have used them a couple of times and their stuff is mostly good quality. Had a set of the Extremes on my Tacoma. I can't say they braked any better than stock but seemed similarly durable and cheaper. Then I tried a set of pads on my Vette to lose the OEM Brembo dusters and there apparently was a bad batch that turned our rotors a brown or bronze color. Braked OK but the rotors got ugly. I believe they corrected that issue a few years ago.

Yes especially since the brakes are biased to engage the rear pads as much as possible to stabilize the vehicle during braking. My rear rotors have had worse runout than the fronts twice in 30,000 miles. Stock rotors are really poor quality.

Mine has plenty of brakes 2022 tundra hybrid limited and has regenerative braking. I believe you may not understand that it charges the battery when braking gently but when you press hard they will override the slowing process and go int full hydraulic mode and brakes will be on fully. Hope that helps. the 3rd gen is a real work of engineering but thru the years they will tweak up.Fun to ride!

    Who are you responding to?
We are non-hybrid trucks experiencing heavy pulsing under high speed braking at highway speeds. Overheated rotors from the factory are crap.

Circling back here. 44k miles and need new brakes badly. Napa has a set of “premium rotors”, and EBC offers a set. Neither appear to be high carbon, nor are they slotted or dimpled or drilled.

Anyone have any experience with these or know of any others?

You can kind of see the 6-piston front BBK on mine. They're made by Rotora. If interested, call them and ask for Loren.

So the brake kit was worth more than the vehicle itself?

Depends on what the rest of the car was like. This car was rust free and accident free and had a bunch of other work. If I parted it out I could easily get 15k for the parts. The engine was dyno'd at the wheels at 160 hp and 315 ft-lbs (stock was 90 and 150). This little engine was amazing and pre dieselgate. I had it tuned so we got almost double the power without a ton of smoke! Almost everything in this car was modified inside and out.

If you look at the Black Book values, I am sure it would appear lower but that only matters if you are selling it.

    Thanks Roman,
Seen you stuff on IG. Great build. I found the powerbrake kit with the upgraded calipers… I’m really just looking for new rotors. High carbon… slotted… dimpled…drilled… anything better than stock. Hoping to find quality rotors for +/- $300 -$500 and avoid a big brake kit for +/- $4k…

Again, love your build. Thanks for the reply.

Thank you and you're welcome. We're all here to help each other with providing information. I know it's a bit frustrating at times when we can't find info or there's too much info to sort out.

Your advice is highly appreciated. I think the cheaper option suits me better, I was searching for a reasonable quality upgrade and came across your post. it makes sense to me.

I also went down the brake rabbit hole. Came to find that if your truck can activate the ABS/lock up the tires, a BBK (Big Brake Kit) isn't worth it. Obviously there are exceptions. Like KroppDuster said, if your towing or have a lot of weight added to your truck or are dong a lot of racing. BBK offer no improvement over stock for a daily driver.
