Accuracy of the computer's displayed MPG

I searched and I didn't find a whole lot of information on this exact topic. I'm also not complaining about the fuel mileage. I'd much rather get 16 mpg in my new Tundra than 16 in my access cab Tacoma. How are everyone's hand calculations compared to their truck's display MPG calculation? I've got a 2017 Limited 4x4 with about 1000 miles on it. The truck displayed 16.4 MPG on the last fill up, and I calculated it manually at 15.76. Granted, it wasn't the same fuel pump or even the same gas station, and I know each pump will "click off" at different levels. I always reset the mileage and meter, and I'll use the same pump next time for accuracy sake. I just wanted to get an idea of how close these trucks calculate accurate MPGs. Thanks in advance.

 

I have 4500 miles on my truck and it's pretty damn close. My average says 15.5 and When I have calculate it's always between between 15.47 and 15.2. I have never reset it and only taken a couple long highway trips. The most I have done so far was 400 miles in a day.

 

I always been +- 1 the amt of time spent in traffic or truck on and not moving..etc.. Ten mins bumper to bumper traffic barely moving avgs about. -.1 mpg/10 mins of this traffic..(don't judge I had nothing better to do)

 

My 2016 has been at 12.8 mpg for a year now.......I doubt that thing works right.

 

I log my mileage in an app every fill up and reset the truck mpg every fill up. My truck gauge is fairly close to my mileage app, normally only off by 0.3mpg or less. I am running 295/70/18 tires and I do not have the Speedo calibrator

What I do is wait to fuel up until my gas light comes on. But I don't know if it's right or not

 

Mine has been stuck at 13.7 for 6 months now. I have never had calculated it before, this is something I might do in the future,

 

Im suppose to have the 26 gal tank, I usually fill up within 20 miles after light comes on but it never takes more than 20 gals.

 

It's because our trucks have a submersed fuel pump. They don't want that pump to cavitate and burn up.

My fuel light came on today, and I went to a meeting and shut the truck off. Came out a couple hours later, and the fuel light didn't come back on, and I went to fill it up. I ended up putting 30 gallons in it.

 

I guess you have the 38 gallon tank. My truck light comes on and I usually put in about 32 gallons. Our reserve tank is around 6-8 gallons.

 

No. But now you know if your in a tight spot you have 6 gallons to find a gas station.

 

Hahaha I had a trailblazer that gave a 15 miles warning before it shutoff..

I've been getting 16.7 mpg ,but I only have 600 miles on the odometer. I've been pretty light on the pedal through the break in.

I know some will say no break in is required, but I'll give it 1k first.

I personally hate trailblazers. My exgf tried running me over in her trailblazer. When she failed at that, she rammed my truck and caused 5,000 dollars worth of damage......

 

I've owned two tundras. A 2014 and a 2016. I've noticed after the first 10,000 miles mpg will drop then settle right around 14.5 mpg average.

Why am I only running 12.5 mpg mostly highway? 295/70r18 for a week. Have 1600 miles on the truck

 

How fast are you driving, how fast accelerating, how much idling? Wind, terrain, cruise control, larger tires, etc. lots of factors

 

Stop playing with the tow mode we know is addicting...

 

Either your driving habits changed, your air filter is plugged or your truck loves the summer blend gasoline.

Are you resetting it after each fill up?
