Hey everybody! Been a Toyota truck fan for a long time, grew up driving around in 80s pickups with my Dad. About 10 years ago I owned a 1st gen Tundra, but today I own a 2004 Tacoma 4x4 and my Dad picked up a 2007 Tundra 5.7 4x4 Crewcab last year. Here's my Tacoma:

In his first six months of Tundra ownership we've been doing some basic maintenance and interior fixes. We replaced the power folding mirrors, door checks, window belt trim, center console cover, F/R brakes, washed the seat belts, swapped in a new steering wheel, changed the diff gear oil, installed some weathertech mats and slapped some Wildpeaks on the 20 inch wheels. Here's me replacing the brakes:

The reason I'm posting here is because my Dad's stereo stopped outputting audio a couple weeks ago. The head unit turns on, but no audio is output to any of the speakers. We bought a used head unit off eBay, which I installed last weekend with no change. I have checked the 30A amplifier fuse a couple of times, and it is good. Have a couple questions for the Tundra folks on here:

    - What's the best place for me to ask about this issue? The 2nd gen forum? The AV forum?
    - Is there anything else besides the amp that I should be looking into? I've read a single bad speaker can kill the whole audio output.
    - I have pulled the JBL amp and it looks like the same amp is used by the 4Runner, RAV4, Prius, Camry in those years. Does anyone know if they are compatible? If I have to replace the amp getting a used one from those models is much cheaper.

Appreciate any help, hope you all enjoy your week!

Have you tried to bench test the old head unit? You could have received a bad unit due to it having never been tested.

I haven't, if it was a basic aftermarket head unit I could bench test without much difficulty, but the JBL head unit has like three wire connectors that have like 30-40 wires in total. My understanding is that the head unit and amp communicate with each other in some fashion, so I don't even know if I'd be able to bench test it without an amp connected. Both the new and old head units turn on, and you can switch inputs and do all of the normal functions, just with no audio.

I'd be looking at the garage heading here and electric sub heading, go to wire diagram and find a way to bench test if me.

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! I would most likely pay a local radio shop to figure it out. I would rather get it fixed quickly than to spend a few weekends trying to figure it out.

Appreciate the advice, we may end up going that route if the replacement amp I ordered doesn't fix the issue. I've done a lot of car stereo installs but never one with this complex of an amplifier setup, diagnosing exactly what's wrong is probably out of my league if it's anything more complicated than a bad amp. In terms of the repair speed, my Dad dailies his RAV4, so the Tundra doesn't get a ton of miles - he's not in a huge rush to fix it.

    Hey Brother...

You can find all the wiring diagrams here for your Dad's truck.
Might help you narrow the issue down..

If you ended up needing to replace the amp, if possible replace it with a 5 channel after-market amp.
You should have replaced the OEM HU with an after-market HU.
Having the JBL you may have to replace the sub as well, I don't know much about the Gen 2 JBL systems.
I know having JBL makes it a bit more complicated, but the OEM stuff sucks..

Keep posting your findings here and we'll help you if we can..
Good luck to you and your Pop..

Appreciate the links, I was browsing that forum earlier and found the wiring diagram.. I was planning to look into it a bit more this evening after dinner once I get settled in. I am somewhat curious what all those wires control. Trust me, if this was my truck I'd be installing an aftermarket headunit and getting rid of the JBL amp, the stock unit definitely feels 15 years old at this point.

Following up on this - the "new" amp we bought off of eBay fixed the issue. Appreciate the welcomes and everyone who helped point me in the right direction here!
