Aaron Franklin makes some of the best BBQ/Brisket in the world and he only seasons it with salt & pepper (the Central Texas way). Buy this book - he walks you through it all and even has his sauce recipes in it.

    See post #180143

I ordered my Pellet Pooper and while I was waiting for it to be delivered, I read his book. The first brisket I ever smoked had my family and my neighbors raving. The dude knows his shit and isn't worried about teaching you how to do it.

I'll add it to the library... I'm just saying it's nice to sometimes just get something already done instead of waking up at the buttcrack of dawn to do it yourself

    Won’t work

    1. the height of it is too tall and you’d have to make a massive hole in the lower plate and the dash to make it work

    2. the hole in the Rago is too big around

That's a shame. You could take a bag of nacho chips, pour a pint of vegetable oil in the bag with 50 tablespoons of salt, shake it up, and you'd probably get something close to a bag of Fritos.

    Totally different thing.
Those aren't BT. Wireless CarPlay and wireless Android Auto are using WiFi for a full stream of data. There's no loss compared to using the USB cable. They merely use BT to establish the initial connection (same was as a head unit that actually has built-in wireless CarPlay or AA).

yeah, I understand that. We had one of the best BBQ places in Texas put in a restaurant 3 blocks up from us and they were open on Sundays. They lasted about a year before they got run out of town by the locals... :( They are the reason I bought a smoker.

Fritos are crack to me. I’ll polish off a bag without blinking, then proceed to hate myself for the next 36 hours.

I've been using one since very early on. Been very happy with it. It has a few quirks every so often (which I have found about 50% of the time are more likely quirks from an iOS update). But a quick press-hold of the volume button to reboot the radio is usually all it needs.

Try salt & pepper - it's freaking magical. Also, Franklin cooks at a higher temp for less time.

Apparently he’s admitted to using more than just S&P. Mad Scientist BBQ YouTube did a vid on it.

Franklin’s BBQ is pure heaven. We where down in Austin 5ish years ago and ordered everything. Skip the turkey; crush the rest.

Went here when I was in Austin in 2020. Their brisket is better than Franklins. https://www.valentinastexmexbbq.com/

I really need to get off of my ass and get to some of these places around here. We had Micklethwaits just up the street from us, which turned into my weekly "church". They'd even joke about doing the cross on my forehead with bbq sauce.

Our town had Zimmerhanzels which apparently was Willie Nelson's favorite BBQ.

Snow's BBQ isn't too far from here and Franklin's is a must. I'll add Valentinas to the wishlist.
