I did an early morning 25 mile run today with a challenging sun angle. (End of trip computer said 20.1 MPG, BTW) As I drove mostly south with jogs to the east I repeatedly got blasted by reflections from those creases and valleys in the hood. I'll have to drive it in more different conditions to see how much of a problem this really is. But I was wondering, has anyone here wrapped that area in a matte material to reduce or eliminate the glare? Maybe even body color matte would help a lot.

I'm surprised that more people don't talk about this annoying issue. I deal with these glares a lot on my 3rd gen but I also keep sunglasses in the truck. I guess small inconvenience that could potentially be a safety issue under the wrong conditions.

There are a fair amount of hood blackouts available on the market:
Plenty of YT vids on how to install these. If you're not comfortable installing this yours, just buy it & take it down to a local tint shop. I haven't done one on my 3rd Gen (thinking I'll do a hood mount solar panel) but I did one on my old FJ. I bought one off of eBay, gave a tint shop like $50, and they put it on in 30 mins one Saturday morning.

PSA: I'm not endorsing any of these. Just sharing results from taking 10 secs to search on Google.

On a side note...there are a few more options on this older thread when this issue was first discussed on the forum:

3rd Gen Tundra: Sun glare fix

    Hope that helps. Cheers!

My glare was not coming from that main part of the flat hood, but from the sloped sides of the creases. I am thinking a couple of strips just along those creases would do. Like the red truck in the post linked above. Perfect. Except I'd like to see someone who has done this in matte body color.

Yeah, the glare can be bad. I don't think it's quite as bad as the hood scoop on the 4Runner is, but there were a lot of people doing color-matched wraps on the hood scoop. I also like that red tundra's wrap, but I would want to color match it if possible.

Yeah, my Tacoma that I just sold was a Sport model with the hood scoop. That thing could be brutal. The glare on the new Turndra is intermittent and short lived whilst those scoops will just flat out blind you. I never wrapped it but there were many days I regretted not doing it.

The other question is do tint shops even have our stock body match colors at all let alone in matte? There is a thread here where folks are ordering that stuff directly from APA.

The reflections from other vehicles around me (like trucks with chrome or capper with flat windows) compelled me to invest in good polarized sunglasses. I tried no-name from Amazon, but they either weren't polarized or they distorted my vision.
Ended up with Ray Bans, polarized. Keep a set in each vehicle. Really helps, not just reflections from your own vehicle, but everything else too.

I will look into these solutions. Thank you all for posting those. I drove mine early this morning again, and was reminded of how horrible that blinding glare can be even with polarized sunglasses.
