Where are you located? If your up Northeast, I bet they are rust buckets.

 

I’ve extended my search to the rust belt! I live in Texas and the aforementioned AC is a Texas truck. Almost went for a 2013 trial 4runner at a local Toyota dealer but most of its life was in MA, had fun peeling rust off it before I walked away lol. I’ve always been told patience is a virtue, really been testing this out lately!

Hey Tundra forum!

I'm on the lookout for the holy grail of 1st gens, a 2005-2006 Tundra DC, so I figured I would make a post about it here. It must have 4x4 and it must be a double cab, I will not consider anything else. I'd prefer to have the limited trim and under 200k miles. I am willing to pay a good price if it is in good condition (rust-free) and meets the above criteria. I'd consider a 2004 model year or an SR5 for a lower price, but I don't need this truck right away so I can be patient for the right one to come around. If you have one you're thinking of selling or know anyone that might be, let me know, I'm your guy.

I'm located in northern San Diego, willing to drive ~500 miles to meet up.

And if anyone would consider a trade (+cash), this Tundra will be replacing my 2001 Tacoma: 4-cyl (3RZ), 4x4, 5-speed manual transmission, ~185k miles in good condition.

I've been searching for a clean 2005 or 2006 double cab 4x4 with <100k miles for about a month without much luck. Following in hopes of better luck and let me know if anyone is aware of anything interesting! I am in Southern California but willing to deal with shipping or a one way trip for the right find.

 

This is, easily, what's going to be your limiting factor. These rarely pop up.

I’m on the search for a unicorn and my research has brought me here. I am looking for a 2005-06 DC, 4x4, prefer a limited, no rust, less than 150k miles. I have been on the hunt for about 2 months now with no luck! I am will travel to the right truck. Cash in hand!

 

Search So Cal Craigslist and be ready for sticker shock.
Usually about once a month one pops up.
Be ready to pay high teens, to mid/upper 20's.
CA trucks are rust free most of the time, and most will have seen little to no off-road use or towing.

I would ask for undercarriage pictures. But I can save you some time, it's a pass. Lived in salt states

 

They post the VIN, enter it as one of your vehicles on Toyota owners & look at it's history & if/when the frame was changed - or not.

It honestly wouldn't be a bad idea to sell it. If you have a clean, low mileage FGT you can still sell it for high value and buy a newer truck for a heavy discount given the car market has flipped and is now a buyers market.

 

But then I’d have to spend quite a bit of cash and have something not at dependable.

What would you pay for 2003 T3 with 150k on clock? Good condition.

 

Don't really see T3 adding value, rare - but that means some parts hard to come by.
Topside condition can easily be inverse to what's going on down-under.
Prices seem to be dropping.

Me - absolutely rust free - $10k-$15k
little bit of rust along some edges - $10k tops
Crunchy underneath - nothing. Just too hard to keep reliable.
