According to my specs, I have the subject item but there are no gain or manual switches. Can someone enlighten me about this?

Also, would adding a 3rd party brake assist controller be redundant?

i also saw videos where the cable could be somewhere under the steering column to connect to a brake controller.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

There are no controls for either Brake Assist or Smart Stop.

Brake Assist can vary the pressure sent to each wheel/brake, depending on conditions. Smart Stop prevents unintended acceleration by disabling a throttle input when the brake pedal is applied above a certain speed. They are just built in and always there.

For the trailer brake controller, I can't remember exactly but I think the integrated controller was added in '16. Since yours is a '15, I assume you don't have that, so you would not have a gain/control switch. You would need to install a 3rd party brake controller. I had to do that with my Tacoma. In the Tacoma, there was a wiring connector under the dash. I just had to buy a wire adapter specific to my truck to connect up the brake controller. Worked really well. I seem to recall reading on here that it was the same setup with the Tundra, that you do have a connector under the dash to plug in to. Others will know better than I as I just use my integrated brake controller that my truck came with.

If a trailer has electric brakes, you don't use the integrated controller right?

Even with electric trailer brakes, you still need a brake controller.
