Turn off accessories with ignition

Is there a way to make the headlights/accessories shut off with the ignition instead of how it is from factory where you have to open the drivers side door?

 

I'm sure you can, gonna need the schematics, to tie the headlight relay into an ignition powered source. I'm sure someone here has the wiring diagram

 

I imagine that function happens in the ECU, so would be rather complex to re-engineer.

 

I think it's actually tied to the TVIP ECU, in the case of OP, the RS3000 module. I just don't remember off-hand if it's something you can program out of the TVIP or not. I did post the RS3000 programming PDF here on the forum though, and OP could search for the word "piddif" on this forum and it should return the post with the manual.

 

Ahh I see, Ill search for that thread. I do not have the rs3000 module in my truck. I was thinking the other night I could run a push button switch to the door switch to simulate opening the door. Its not the end of the world, just annoying when you want to chill in the truck without killing the battery and you have to open/close the door. Also with the new remote start, when you kill it with the key, all accessories stay on. Appreciate the help.

 

You checked the normal location? I was under the impression it was installed on every vehicle, whether you like it or not.

Have you just tried flipping the lights on/off when you park? Not sure if that works, but I seem to remember turning the lights from "ON" to "Auto" on my wife's Highlander makes them cut off.

 

Its not in the drivers side footwell like usual, or kick panel. Saw no evidence of it during the remote start install. Funny, I even ordered oem key fobs assuming it was there, and no, luckily my brother just picked up a 1st gen tundra so he can put them to use.

 

Ill play around with the light switch settings on the stick, see if that does anything...

 

IIRC, it's not in the footwell, it's up under the dash. @daveeasa does a potato-quality job of highlighting where it is, here - it's the light grey box with a white sticker in the top mid-right of this picture, with the little bit of grey foam attached:

Looks like it's just under the gauge cluster, sorta between the pedals to me. You may be right, I'd love to hear some confirmation. One member was able to follow the piddif file for RS3000 program to confirm their truck actually did enter programming mode, but it can be a PITA to get the key/door sequence right the first time IMO.

 

Headlights for my truck are controlled by that integration relay which I had to replace. Though the power on/off part might come upstream from some other module? Not exactly sure, the wiring diagram is complicated so I can't pretend to understand it yet, haven't really looked at it.

If you truly want to kill all headlights when ignition is off, the simplest way would be to use a headlight harness and source power off an ignition switched relay (perhaps grab the DRL signal for the relay coil, mine is on whenever the truck is on). The, supply that ignition switched power to the common terminal on the h4 connector on the relay output and keep the inputs and high/low ground signals as-is.

This wouldn't nuke parking lights though, but maybe that's ok?

 

Any 2000 owners I recall posting about location here and at Tundra Solutions found it above the e-brake and fuse block to the left of the vent tube. What helps is to remove the bottom dash panel under the steering column, then pop off the switch panel for better access and shining of flash light.

This is a previous RS3000 pic from a 2000 owner where he was able to pull it out still plugged in after removing above items mentioned.

 

Ok Ok now you got me real interested Bubba. Ill check up above the ebrake and fuse block and report back, it definitely was not up under the drivers side dash.

 

Ah, I wasn't aware of the TSB for migration from next to the integration relay. That's good stuff right there.

 

Update, I searched high and low for the alarm module in the guts of the drivers side dash even above the ebrake where the tsb might have moved it and my truck does not have one. I gave up on trying to shut off accessories with the ignition, just a Tundra quirk i will have to live with. Thanks for all the replies!
