Went out to start the truck to go to the gym. Started fine but every single light on the dash was illuminated. My 4HI/4LO lights were flashing back and forth, traction control, check engine, ABS, and others were all on. Truck wouldn't accelerate hardly at all. Pop the hood and a squirrel jumped out of the newly made nest in the back right corner of the engine bay. Chewed threw some of the main wiring harness, to the right of the master cylinder, that goes through the fire wall. So... I turned my Tundra into a squirrel house.

It is now squirrel season 24/7/365 at my house now.

I kinda feel your pain. I had a rat chew through the knock sensor harness 2 different times since Christmas. I'm getting pretty good at pulling intakes.

 

Savage Mark II FV-SR with a decent scope. I will begin putting the heads on eight inch pikes so their friends/family get the idea to leave my truck alone....

 

I learned a couple new tricks after this video and another video where the guy used steel wool and Nu Finish polish. After, I replaced the OEM wipers with new OEM wipers in November and they were squeaking even though the truck is wash regularly. The process that I used was to clean the windshield, clay bar and Nu Finish. It made a world of a difference and eliminated the constant dragging and squeaking sounds from the wipers.

Anyone upgraded their clothe seats? I know there are some real good 'faux' leather options out there.

Also, what's the verdict on best stuffy antennas? Looking for good reception but also one that can stand up to carwashes.

 

sigh.... My water pump burst this morning... I heard a weird noise out of the engine and rushed the last 3 blocks home... Lost power steering, maybe the alternator as the battery light came on. Lost some power but was able to park in the driveway this time... Fortunately, I had already bought all the parts and coolant months ago, maybe a year ago... I hope my alternator is not gone.....

So, you noticed a leak but continued to drive the truck? Or did it just burst without any signs of leakage?

 

Alt is probably fine. You probably either lost the belt or had a lot of slippage. Good time to replace the belt, idlers, and check the bearings on the ps pump/alt/compressor.

 

There are many threads about seats but I went with Canada Seat Skins. I think this is the antenna I have but I can't comment on reception. Its been intermittently leaking for a while... After it sat for day it would leak a few drops and would stop. Somedays it wouldn't leak at all. There is a hose by the throttle body that is going and I thought it was the issue since its showing the inner webings. I was going to change it, but come to find out it was the wrong hose, so I ordered a new one... Will replace both.. with a theottle body gasket...

So, I've had a stash of parts waiting to be replaced, since I had the serpentine belt and water pump out, I replaced the belt tensioner, and idler bearing since both were gone a while ago, so it should run quiet from now on.. I had a long 2 hour fight with this new serpentine belt, so I've yet to refill the radiator with coolant. It was my 1st DIY water pump, gotta give it to @ViktorG His vid on Youtube is legit, followed it to the T, I probably gave his vid like 40 views just today. I just ran into some issues, like "what he just say" and "what bolt is he talking about", and damn I dropped my wrench, and my 10mm was attached to a ratcjet so it couldn't run away....



Check this hose out, I had to order a new one since the parts guy led me down the path... Its not online, nor is there an image of it anywhere.... so he said its this hose and my dumb ass took it as gospel... well it wasn't it it was the next one, but I'll post that later.. well I'll have to make a new coolant mess later.

 

Did the garage door remote hack/mod.

Where did you find switches to fit in the blanks? I’ve tried a few where the headlight adjuster go and they simply don’t fit.

 

Wow. This hack is over a decade old. I just never got around to doing it on the TT but installed it on my other vehicles (mainly motorcycles).

Not sure if I have the time to do a proper write-up but I just searched and there are tons of youtube how-to vids for the remote hack. Below is a how-to link I found on youtube (it's a good one). I'm not a big fan of splicing or tapping into OEM wires so if you're like me then I would suggest using quick connectors for the switch wires to the remote as opposed to soldering the switch wires directly to the remote, and using a fuse tap to light the switch/button. It just makes replacing the battery that much easier than having to remove the panel to get to the remote. You can hardwire the remote if you want. Some soldering is required. I also used wire insulator/heat shrinks to tidy up the wires. Lastly, below is the link to where I bought the orange garage button/switch. Let me know if you have any questions.

where did you hide your original garage opener?

 

I’m planning on using a couple of those 3m Velcro tabs and put it on the inside toward the bottom of that panel under the steering wheel.

 

Is this mod for vehicles without the home link or whatever in rear view mirror?

 

I velcroed it behind the panel below the steering column. This way I can remove the garage door opener and replace the batteries if need be hence why I suggested using the quick connector (don't use butt connectors...I hate them with a passion) as opposed to soldering as others have done in their how-to vids.

Mine has homelink but my garage door opener isnt compatible without buying a $40 module so I’m going this route.

 

Is anyone able to confirm or deny that a 2nd Gen SR5 (2011) truck is pre-wired for front heated seats and/or a power front passenger seat? I’m out of state so I can’t go look at mine but I found some Limited trim seats and I’m wondering if they will work after I swap the connectors to match the truck.

 

My 08 is an SR5 and was wired for homelink and reverse camera. I popped off the sun sensor for the headlights and the harness wasn’t there. It’s my understanding they have a few levels of sr5’s 07-09 and 10-13 are slightly different.

The plugs might be behind the ac panel but lead to nowhere. Try looking for the auto headlight Sun sensor harness first. If you have that unfitted you might have luck.

If the seats are a good deal buy’em and upgrade. Or pass them to me hahaha
