Will a full console tray still fit over the half safe? Would be interested in this but don’t want to lose the tray

ConsoleVault has a site-wide 50% off sale that applies to the half-safe - and it stacks with the 15%-off affiliate code 'RUGBY' - this puts it within competitive price of the Amazon ones, and I much prefer the design and quality of this one.

I never leave my sidearm unattended, but this will make me feel better driving through states that have conflicting conceal-carry permit laws to my own home state.

It will not from what I have researched. Love my tray as well and the full size safe depending on brand is just as secure and solid.

$119 with free shipping and no tax was too good to pass up. Dunno how often I'll use it but I grabbed one. Thanks all

The console safe (full version since it's a 2nd gen) arrived today. The instructions say to remove the console power outlet, but don't mention how. I have a call in to Console Vault, no answer so far. Not a good first impression.

If anyone's removed the outlet, let me know how you accomplished it.

Strike 2. ConsoleSafe called back, but they had no idea how to get the bezel off. They said to just pry on it with a screwdriver. That did work, but now the lid to the console won't close. It appears the safe is a little to large for the console.

One remaining possibility is to remove the plastic bracket at the back of the console that holds the tray. I tried popping it out, but it's pretty secure. I may pick up another onto see how it's secured and remove the old one. If that doesn't work, it's strike 3 and back it goes.

Getting closer. The hanger in the back of the console was the problem with the lid. It took a long 3/8 extension and several strikes with a fairly large hammer to dislodge it. It would wiggle, but there wasn't enough room inside the box to get a good enough swing to remove it. If you need to take yours out, drive it towards the driver seat. The safe fits in and the console lid will close. Sadly, the bolt holes don't line up and the supplied bolts are about 3 inches too short. No amount of wiggling will line up the holes (at least the rear hole, I can't see the front) enough to get a clear shot at bolting it down.

All in all, I'd have to rate construction as good, quality control as mediocre, and installation instructions as piss poor.

On the plus side, I left a couple of messages about the problems and received a callback on both. Not bad since the factory is closed today due to a snow storm and someone was checking messages from home. That's pretty impressive customer service.

One more post here, I'll tie it all together in a new post if I ever get the installation completed.

There's quite a gap under the safe. The depth shown here is the gap not including the little well where the rear bolt goes.

This shows the supplied bolts compared to the gap.

Am I reading that caliper right, the safe is five inches shallower in depth than the oem console?

Yes, it's going to take at least 6" bolts to secure it.

That a significant reduction of storage space! They must have done it for a reason though, maybe it would make installation impossible to get into the console if made the full depth? I’d call and ask, something doesn’t seem right if the bolts provided aren’t long enough. I’m going to guess it was either built incorrectly or you don’t have it fully seated into the console.

Something doesn't look rigth on the full safe. In their website pictures the front significantly lower. Also one reviewer noted" I found the vault much easier to install once the "hanging file" clips were removed (simply by tapping / sliding them towards the driver's seat).

I wish I'd read that review. When I first called about the problem, I was told to remove the rear bracket. That allowed it to fit and pretty much match the illustration. Here are the supplied instructions and how deep it actually fits. By the way, the rear bracket slides towards the driver side, the front slides towards the passenger side. I had to use a hammer and a 12" socket extension to get mine out. There isn't enough room to swing a hammer hard enough to knock them loose from inside the console.

I won't fault customer service in this, only whoever wrote the instructions. Customer service was quick to respond.

So, you now have enough room for a full size tray?

Glad you got it in. Even if it takes some modificaiton, I'd still put in a tray.

Looks like their needs to be a step 3a in those instructions.

Got mine installed also, no issues. That thing is heavy! I don't know what I expected, aluminum? lol but it's solid. My only complaint is on the Tundra itself, I guess those bolts are just screwed into plastic. They took no effort to remove and the new ones wouldn't get satisfyingly tight.

Mine got real tight. There is metal under the factory console that it bolts into.
