Not a good year for racks in Texas due to the drought and hot weather. Just took a cull. 20221212_080400.jpg

I really want to do the rack with the soft topper. Any draw backs with this setup?

Xtrusion Overland rack over softopper, 175 watt solar on top and place for some tools on the side.

None that I’ve found. I have the sides up and back and front off 98% of the time. It’s nice to have that back window rolled down in the summer. That is why I went with this setup.

I really wanted to get the RCI rack with this but we couldn’t make it work. The Datin is great though. You could also, if you have the coin, get an extruded bed rack and have it custom made to accommodate a soft top.

One awesome thing too: the rack, soft top, Decked Drawers (which you can’t see), basket (purchased used) and Thule box (which I got in the mid-90’s when I drove an Accord) all cost me less than a hard top that could hold weight.

Xtrusion overland makes the rack out of extruded aluminum and I like their product a lot.

I am very interested in your set up but, I have a few questions. This set up is, i believe, what I've been wanting. I currently have a 2019 Tundra Crewmax 1794 with a Diamondback HD bed cover (/w drop-in toolbox and side boxes). I am wanting to expand my covered storage area (height wise), keep some semblance of secure storage, and have the ability to carry heavy/long items (DIY'er). RTT is not a concern at this time. Flexibility and function over form are valued.

I'm trying to determine if you can, firstly, retract the Softopper cover with the Decked system in place, without significant disassembly? And, secondly, if you can retract the Softopper with the bed rack in-place (Datin, Uptop, e.g.) by removing the cotter pin from the center hinge, lowering the pivot point and folding back (with Decked in-place), and/or removing middle horizontal load bars from above rack? There is a YouTube video suggesting this as a possibility regarding folding back the Softopper with a rack in-place.

You have to pull the pins and drop the soft top to fold it back. If I recall, the easiest was to pull the whole thing out, fold it, wrap it then reinstall it. I did it once to see how it goes. Haven’t done it since. Haven’t needed to frankly.

I did some work and fitted a Leitner ACS rack on mine. I retained the trail bed boxes, OEM bed rail system, and made the bed stiffeners work as well. I decided I wanted some more secure dry storage so I made a 2 piece hard cover which fits over top the bed and sits below the rack. It slides open and locks shut for access.

I chose to go the DIY route, I ordered towers from Compact Camping Concepts and used unistrut for the crossbars to hold my RTT. I added some side rail to mount my side boxes to, I still need to mount my awning but that will probably go on my roof rack.

I Like this. Thought I wouldnt be able to run the Leitner on mine cause of the storage boxes but this post solved it lol.

I was also able to tuck the Tundra bed mat under my storage boxes, just cleaning under them sucks :(
