Got the wire in the OBD2 but not blinking for fluid check mode

I'm not familiar with what you are trying to do but I am curious.

 

Trying to put the tundra in transmission fluid level check mode to check transmission fluid level

The is a procedure that has to be done, its just not put the jumper in. My take on this is, Drain out the pan, measure what you took out, and put the same back in. Usually 4 quarts. No sense in making your life hard.

 

Yeah I did that with the trans cooler install but wanted to try the “Toyota Approved” method. I’m told that it puts it into a lower idle for a more accurate level check. I dunno wanted to give it a shot

 

It's out there. Toyota actually has instructions on doing it this way.

Did you do the procedure? I believe you have to shift from N to D back and forth till the D lights up then put it back in park, then sometime else. Something to that effect.

 

I’ve read and watch videos on it, just not sure what up.

 

Yup did that as well, with no avail

Maybe the jumper was in the wrong place or not far enough in to make contact. I did this before but can't remember on what vehicle. It worked out perfect.

 

A scan gauge work also and is good for monitoring engine data. You should look into one.

 

Well if I can’t figure it out tonight I may just stick to the ScaneGauge temps from now. Just trying to do my best to stick to the “Toyota Method”. Thanks for the input though

I monitored the on-board data to watch the temp and it worked perfect. Coincidentally I shot the pan with an infrared and it was only a couple degrees cooler than the OBD reading so I think that would work in a pinch.

 

This is good to know. I saw a few posts saying the infrared thermometer method was completely inaccurate-which I didn't believe. Good to know it's only a couple of degrees difference. Not enough to warrant the hassle of jumping the obd port and going through the procedure.
