No wheel spikes? Not very apocalyptic.

Is this the southern version of “Keeping up with the Joneses”?

    Possibly?

I've seem plenty around here, in AL, and in FL with legit wheel spikes, 4"-8", it's a real thing.

No drills on the bumpers or anything, but ... I bet you'll find that out there somewhere too.

How are you liking the 2nd gen? Does it have the 4.6?

It's not that bad. It is the lowest of the base models. I don't know 2nd gens that great, but I believe the v6 was gone at this year(13), so the 4.6 is base. Only options it has is cruise and PW. It may have PL, but I don't have the clicker. No Bluetooth, no cloth seats, no carpet, no 5.7, no lsd, no 4wd, no nothing. It's even got a column shift and bench seat. With the 4.6 it actually feels about like my truck on 33s. Gas mileage is crap at 11-12 mpg, but I'm also heavy footed and have a bit of weight I carry around. The dude who had it before just didn't give a fuck about it so it needs a good cleaning. I kinda dusted it and replaced the wipers.

I'm waiting to see if they're gonna put me in one of the new dodges before I put in my stereo. I'm also gonna get some new center caps and sand/clear the headlights if I stay in it. Overall, it's not a bad truck. It's hard to compare truck to truck, especially with this being a work truck, but it doesn't offend me.

Oh God, am I turning into a 2nd gen guy? Somebody save me!

IDK, do they still bitch about the AIP pumps or is that now a thing of the past with a bypass solution?

So vinyl seats? Sounds like fun for the summer.

Got my front end noises addressed, now I need to get her aligned. I’m on stock tire size. What should I ask for numbers wise on the alignment? Do you think Toyota would do it, or just go by the book? Also tossing around getting the lifetime alignment from Firestone, even though I hate them. Any thoughts?

Picked up those Mechanix gloves today for $5/each and only 4 gallons @ $3.35/gal wasted. :D

Still guess I made out. Thanks, @FirstGenVol. Had to get one in XL and the other in L due to the size variation from one to another of the same type plus my fingers are more or less in between the two sizes.

built a fire in the top of the stack, cause my whole hole is full of ashy water. We were slammed with about 2 inches this morning at 6ish. And this hole has only drained 1/2" or so.

Alright, got an appointment with Firestone in the morning. Decided on the lifetime alignment. Any special instructions I should give with a stock setup?

When you get to the shop, loosen the cams and wiggle it wonky, so they HAVE to mess with em. Find the dude doing it, slip him $20, and get as much caster and as little extra camber, and depening on your preference, i prefer less toe to make the highway less twitchy, more like floating between the runout. Some people prefer more 'feel', but im not corner carving in my pickup. I think id really like a rear sway bar stiff enough to oversteer, but i think i'd like both swaybars to be disconnectable (and the rear tucked up on top).

Update "a" to "as" and completely changed what i said about camber. AS little extra camber. For your height and weight, factory camber ?0.05*? Is perfect. Just the act of maxxing caster tends to tuck the tops inwards in bound, and thats bad for max brakes.

I saw these numbers on the buy a first gen thread, but not sure if its only for lifted:

-0.1 to -0.3 camber, 2.6 to 2.8 caster, 0.1 to 0.2 total toe in. For camber, aim closer to -0.1 if you're mostly driving freeway, and if you like corners/onramps at speed, aiming closer to -0.3 will offset outside-edge tire wear somewhat.

@assassin10000 suggested this for our truck in another thread I found:

    -0.3 camber
    2.8 caster
    .15-.25 total toe

This is pretty close to the one I copied above

I'm curious to see how we did aligning it by eye. No vibrations or pulling at 90mph, I haven't noticed any unusual wear. I'll def post the paperwork after its done. For Science.

I wasnt responsible, but our eyeballed alignment @panhandlemonium was more decent than i'd have given us credit for.

Bet they'd let you take it on a test drive or 2 and tweak it perfect.
