Aggressive sidewall and good wet traction?

I'm looking for tires that have aggressive sidewall that are good for wet traction.
I've read that the BFG KO2s are not great for rain/wet driving, is it true? Pretty hard to believe considering its been pretty much the staple for All Terrain tires.
What tires is everyone on and how is your experience in the rain?

 

Yokohama GO15's, great tires and quiet too. Not really aggressive looking, but they perform.

 

I had one set of KO2s, and I wouldn't buy them for a really wet area. The wet braking was terrible. That was a while ago and they may have improved since then, but I preferred Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws in everything but mud. I avoid mud, so that was a sacrifice I was OK with.

 

BFG KO2 are not good in the rain. They are a staple and have the right "look", but also haven't kept up with advancements in technology.

Look at the Cooper ST Maxx.

 

I have Falken Wildpeak AT3s that are great in rain and off-roading. Next tires I want to try are the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss’s.

That said, I recommend the Fallen Wildpeaks.

I can’t recommend the KO2s. As others have said, not great in wet, terrible in snow. I won’t go into the overall terrible mileage I’m going to get from them, but I have been rough on them off-road (still mediocre performance).

Edit: I run falken wildpeaks on my wife’s Q5 for winter use and they outperform the KO2s on the Tundra

 

The Toyo Open Country AT3's are really good so far. I just put a set on the 4Runner.

 

Was debating this also, right now the AT3 and the KO2 are about the same price. The AT3W however are quite a bit more.

This tire shopping is more complicated than I thought it was. Winter tires as simple…. Blizzak or XIce. LoL

 

I have heard nothing but great things about the Falken Wildpeak, however I went with the Nitto Ridge Grappler. It has been excellent on my truck and I have had good luck with Nitto products in the past so a bit of brand loyalty there.

 

I am going with Kenda Klever R/T. I've heard great things at a price I wanna pay(found them on sale for 219each). If I wanted spend more i'd probably go with Cooper Rugged Trek.

I would disagree. Any tire is better in snow when properly aired down. I did some miles bottomed out on KO2s at around 15 PSI, they are quite OK. Perhaps not the best, but I was plowing with the front bumper, the tires were loosing traction only when the suspension was fully maxed out. Climbing up unplowed fire roads was also not a problem for traction.

They are not great on ice, that's granted.

 

General Grabber AT/X has KO2-like look and are better on wet reads. I've used both.

Yokohama G015 - stay away.

 

Not arguing the aired down side of things, but for the driver that does not want to air down when normal driving on the road covered in snow, not plowing with the front bumper up double track when aired down, I do not recommend. YMMV

 

Just here to report IME Nitto Ridge Grappler does not do well in the rain - especially stopping. Love the tire, but they suck on wet asphalt.

 

They have not. I'm running Coe-toos now and they have less grip in normal conditions. And weaker mileage.

I was a dumbass not buying Michelins again. Saved $300 like an idiot.

 

Toyo OC have been really good through two Colorado winters. Much better than the KO2

 

This is my experience too. I wasn't plowing but drove through snow about every other week on K02s and they did fine for me. That said, I don't have much of a baseline to compare to other tires.

 

The driver should stick with Michelin LTX2 then. They are good year around. They are so good that even when I wanted a real LT AT tires I waited 20k miles until they lost most of the snow grip and I could not take them to forest in winter anymore. It made no sense to me to throw out such good tires. Their only deficiency is visual only. Oh, and they also come in LT and 33" size.

 

I’m on my third set of Falken Wildpeaks. They are the best all around tire I’ve had. I live in colorado and use them in the city and on trails in muck rain and snow quite a bit. They’re great tires.

 

Another voice here on BFG. I didn't have stopping issues on wet pavement, but I did have take-off problems. After 20k even barely accelerating at normal speed would cause them to spin. I'm not talking WOT here, I mean just normal driving. Especially if taking off on a incline. I would have to grandpa it to avoid spinning. I keep approximately 300lbs in bed at all times so it's not a light rear issue. The oem duratracs were better at 55k. Cooper at3/atp were better on wet roads. The BFG are decent on snowy roads/highways in my limited experience. Though I was in 4hi and doing 35/40. Minimal issues gripping.
