Hey @shifty` Thank you so much for all the info during the buying process!! I just got the timing belt, water pump, thermostat etc etc replaced for $1350.

The mechanic noticed the oil pressure gauge fluctuating and heard some tapping so they replaced the oil. Seems fairly normal for Tundras to have the gauge fluctuate a bit. They checked the pressure and it was fine. Receipt says 0w20 full synth. Im worried they put in too thin of oil. I am also hearing some tapping now. Have you heard anything about folks using 0w20?

Other than that, the new truck is lookin good! a broken propeller shaft mount and some leaky rear shocks and that about it. Still seems I got a good deal at $6500 :) picked up my new topper this week!

Yeah if they really put 0w20 in it I'd be changing it ASAP. They should know better though.

The spraypaint work is a mess, but it can be corrected :D

Nick is right on the oil. 5w30. Call and ask; if hand-written, that's a problem. If it's computer printed, maybe human error or their system has limited options. Don't prompt them that it should get 5w30, ask what they put in it and if they say 0w20, then say it should get 5w30.

FYI, and I should put this in there: Some tapping in the engine bay is normal. We see so many complaints about this. I have it in mine also. I don't think it's lifter noise or anything, someone mentioned it's just the injectors pulsing. To me, it sounds like something arc'ing out, like a coil pack, but it's always been there on my engine once warm.

Oh and 0w20 is probably ok if you live in Alaska and plan to change oil before summer :D

Yeah not sure what a previous owner was thinking with that paint job! o_O that'll be corrected soon enough.

Thanks for the input guys  I'll call tomorrow to inquire.

    This is a great thread!

Am I the only f-tard running a fox suspension on my 1GT?

After reading this I kinda want to put my truck on a car carrier, ship it to shifty, send him $5k to go over the truck for me while someone else builds out his basement, and tell me what else to f with next :)

But I know he's too busy to do that. Still, a guy can dream.

Basement is actually near-done. I still need to re-wire up the sound system for my wife's new gym space, seal the exposed concrete walls and floors of my much tinier shop area, and finish up a bit more cabling in the rec room for the kids, get my guitars up on the wall and amps staged/wired. It's a mountain.

But more than anything, once I make headway on that pile, I *must* get off my ass and get my own damn suspension in. And finish wiring for my amp & subs so I have a normal stereo. And wire in my reverse camera. And change my diff/tc fluids. I basically just have laundry lists of unfinished stuff piled up and I'm struggling to get out.

Will be distracted with youngest kid's bday party this weekend, with 5 kids sleeping over, which forced me to scramble at getting all the consoles wired for the rec room so they can party up down there. Where the hell is my Calgon, ffs?

Need to use the Dave Ramsey snowball method. Pick the smallest, easiest to accomplish task, and git r done. There, one gone, satisfaction achieved. Then the next smallest task, then the next. Pretty soon the list is small and the tasks completed are being enjoyed. We just gutted and remodeled an entire house. Ourselves. The list is always and still is long. But I grab my screwgun and replace some doorknobs and feel better. I climb up in the attic and insulate some water lines and feel better. Each leading to, well we all know it will never all be done. More just gets added to the list and it continues in perpetuity.....

I hear you, snowball is basically how I got to the few larger remaining tasks I'm at now. Snowball method works great as long as crazy schedules/deadlines, expectations, and attitudes aren't at play.

It's also how I got out of debt I accumulated helping my wife financially recover after Reebok reneged on a very large contract which ultimately tanked her small business, and as it was going under, she had her identity stolen stemming with a pickpocket incident in EU. Total shitshow.

The reality is, we probably have too much house, the kids add to that handful, and I am a perpetual snowball myself and tend to collect bonus projects, which doesn't help.

PS - As helpful as snowball is, Ramsey is kinda a douchenozzle, and a lot of the time, quite full of shit.

My previous was total internet advice, my task list is a mountain also . House stuff needs to be completed, stuff I have everything I need to do but time. Need to put up the extra fencing in the shop. Need to go through the shop I can barely walk in right now due to moving boxes full of god knows what since we are living already in the house with what seems to be everything we need. I have FGT stuff to do, daunting stuff like front wheel bearings. Wife's Jeep needs brakes, the squeak has arrived, and at only 140k miles! They don't build things like they used to. Her Jeep and the FGT are due oil changes. All vehicles are due a waxing. :annoyed:

I look forward to your posting on how-to change 1st Gen wheel bearings. Specifically the 20-ton press you plan to use and the necessary makeshift or store bought adapter plates to hold the assembly for the press out/in of the wheel bearings. :)

The 20 ton press is currently the missing link. I have access to a 12 ton at my dad's, but I doubt it will have the cojones to get the job done. I may break the front end down and attempt with the 12 ton, and upon failure go to HF and grab a 20 or 50 ton. I've got enough odds and ends metal things to makeshift the dies/adapters needed. If the 1A auto chick can do it, we can too!

I know everyone wants to be the DIY guy but maybe consider pulling your spindle and taking it to a shop to press out/in bearings. I've done that with another tundra's rear axle bearings before and if I ever do front wheel bearings I'll probably do the same. I don't have the room for a press even if I wanted one.

If only it were that easy. I’m a busy guy and travel for work a lot. I don’t have an abundance of spare time for these kinds of projects these days. I Talked to 4 shops, they all laughed and said no thanks. They know. The local dealer wouldn’t even call me back when I called to inquire about it. I was referred to a transmission shop, who had the appropriate equipment, but not the experience with it, no thanks. The video from A1 shows numerous steps where things could go wrong if one didn’t know better or give a shit. My experience has been that very few people give a shit or have any pride in their work. I’ve got space for a press. I’ve needed a press for numerous projects throughout the years and have used my dads 12 ton for those.

    Agreed.

I didn't realize it was such a complex ordeal. Hopefully I'll never have to deal with it but time will tell.

I was lucky and found a shop that had a toyota guy working there. I scheduled a time and dropped off my spindles with the bearing kit and they had them done by lunch. After the ordeal with my rear axles, I think it was $200 well spent. It also helped that I have a work truck so it doesn't matter how long the truck is down.

Looking into switching over from a 1st Gen taco to a 1st Gen tundra

    Question -

What determines if an AC or DC has a bench seat? Is it the base SR5 trim or something different? I like the idea of having a big bench seat
