What would you do? 18" or 20"

I am looking to buy a set of wheels for my 2nd Sequoia currently on a 3" lift..
It is my daily driver for commuting to work 2x-3x a week and errands.. then weekend adventures to ski/bike/camp/climb, what ever..

So, realistically I am driving in the cities and hwys 80% of the time..
The other 20% is dirt-roads/fire roads/ light offroading (for now... piggy bank for a rear locker is still pretty empty)

Do I maximize the offroad capability by going with bigger sidewalls on an 18" wheel, or avoid the inherent rocking and wallowing of lots of sidewall by picking a 20" wheel and assuming it is smarter to optimize for the 80% use case??

Or am I totally overthinking this, and just suffering from paralysis by over analysis?

It's a shame that these stuck out from the fender so much, because i actually liked the way they looked... but they are now long gone..

I've thought about the same for my Tundra (Came with 20's) and seem okay for my use. My hywy driving % is probably closer to 90 though so will probably stick with them.

 

I've searched extensively for the RockWarriors, if I could find those, 17s would be it!

 

I just went from 20s to 18s on my Tundra. Seems like a smoother ride so far.

 

17s for sure. Lots of good size options 33”, 34”, 35” and many in Load C or D to not go overboard weight wise. Rock warriors are the best but Methods in 17” work well too. Titan7 if you’re going all out (T-AK1 model).

 

Decent shocks and tire pressure should avoid the rocking issue I think. So for your use case, I’d pick what you think looks best. I have 18” wheels, no complaints.

 

18's are a better ride than 20's due to more sidewall.

 

I think if you're primarily looking at comfort then I'd say 18s to have more cushion in the side walls. I believe you can get lighter wheel/tire combo with 20s, hut wouldn't be that significant. I think the 20s look better with a mild AT or go with a street tire. But 18s look great with a more aggressive AT tire.

Yes for some brake designs.

 

I haven't been able to find a 17" wheel with acceptable offset,, other than the rock warriors.. Otherwise, I would go with that..

 

My vote is for 18’s
