Need a new key for my 2019

My 2019 key with integrated lock/unlock needs a new key. My primary is beat up and doesn’t seem to function well. Started using my backup key and it works perfectly. Called the local dealers, they want $175 for the key and $125 to program/cut the key. Seems silly, any alternative recommendations?

 

Toms Key and most local hardware stores will cut them for free.

 

Some of the local locksmiths can cut and program keys to vehicles....you would have to call around. I don't know if you can order a blank key to save money or not.

 

When I worked at HD, customers didn't understand why they couldn't get keys for newer vehicles cut. Some keys have the transponders inside them.

 

Yeah, buy the keys and/or integrated key/fob from Toms, program them with the "rental" from Toms, and take them anywhere to get cut. Telling the store they're already programmed clears up a lot of confusion.

 

Whats wrong with the key, the buttons or the actual key? I programmed two keys from Amazon for my 2019 with Techstream and then cut at home depot. Cost of Techstream and keys from Amazon was about $130 total, plus I've used Techstream to shut off the seatbelt chime and change a few other convenience features, it even was a help bleeding the brakes so Ill say it's definitely paid for itself. Thank you for the link. The teeth on the key are worn down because I hang my keys on a key chain on my belt and I guess the banging around roughed it up.

 

If the chip inside and buttons are fine you might be able to just take a blank out of a new fob, put it in and get it cut.

 

great idea, yeah the buttons and fob portion works fine. Will look into this.

 

Or cut the transponder out and get a flip key fob. You can cut the blank and use the guts of your lock/unlock chip.search the forum as someone did this

 

Where are you located? I'm in Socal and did my replacement key last week for $200. That's including the fob, key cut and programmed.

I haven’t done this on my tundra, but our Camry has pretty much the exact same key. Just had a trunk button also.

we broke one Camry key. The key itself separated from the main part with the buttons and guts. Got a blank key off of Amazon for hardly nothing. Took the blank to Lowes and had them cut it twice. The first time takes the bulk of the key off for the teeth, second cut does the fine tuning. I’m sure a locksmith could as well. Once I got it cut I took the main chip board out with the buttons and put it into the blank key. One thing to remember when doing this, if you see a little rectangle area above the chip board, there is a small magnet. You need to move it from the old key to the new one to work. Cheap and easy.
