The Toyota trim compare page shows it standard on SR5 in general, without adding a package.

Thanks for the response. Just confirming what I saw on the spec sheet before spending money.

What’s everyone’s opinion on the Bak X4s ? Just wonder about disability and security

Curious as well. Also saw some early complaints about excessive water when first released, but I’m wondering if those have been sorted out.

I went with the Truxedo Centry hard roll up cover, heard there has been issues with X4S and one in particular was frost wouldn't allow it to roll up. Had the Centry on 2020 Tacoma for 2 years even in the winter and no issues here in Montana. Just before Christmas drove in -12 degrees for 150 miles, at destination cover function without issues, loaded suit cases in the back, drove another 150 miles home in -12 or lower degrees as it was starting to get dark, upon arrival home, function without issue. I like the canvas look to the cover over the X4S vinyl (cheap look) anyways.

Would someone be able to break in from the sides with the Velcro?

No, there is a latching system the runs down the side in a couple spots, but really if someone wanted to get in to any tonneau cover, they can, just us a crowbar. Yes, even a Diamond Back is not theft proof. Some are harder than other and the truck may get damaged, but it is possible on every cover.

Thank you, the truck bed cover will be my next big purchase and I've been researching for the past month. Over the course of the truck bed cover life, isn't there a risk of the Velcro getting dirty from pollen and dirt and whatnot?

Also you mentioned choosing the truxedo due to longevity, but aren't they both pretty much the same style/company?

I have never had any issues with the velcro.
As for the differences in the two Hard Roll up Tonneau Covers, they are similar in style but yet different. They are definitely different companies. One is in South Dakota and the other in Missouri with common distributors like RealTruck.
In your research you should have learned that BAK has parts that break easy and doesn't cover the bed as well. The vinyl with frost on it refuses to roll up.

Awesome, thank you for the info! I had heard the BAK x4 has issues where it fell apart (a provider here in Tucson doesn't recommend them as many customers complained the sun destroyed the covers), but I read that the X4s did a bigger job protecting

    @Durtywrench

I just installed the Bak X4S on my 2023 today, it is secure, but if someone wants in it I suspect they will find a way. Have not had a chance to test water entry yet but Im also sure there will be a little. But the X4S is very much improved than the previous X2. I had the X2 on my 08 Tundra and it was awesome. Over time I had a little more water coming in but only under extreme conditions or car washes and even then not enough for me to worry about. But I have to tell you that when I bought my new Tundra I knew the revolver X4S was going on it, I really thought the X2 was a great product. My tri-fold before the X2 eventually fell apart, over 6-7 years. As far as the sun destroying I dont about that, years in Colorado didnt hurt mine at all. I do know a way to get in the revolver if needed, and its from the tailgate but it takes some real effort. Ask me how I know LOL ;)

A bigger job protecting is debatable. I would say more of a slight edge better. But weighing the pros and cons between the 2, I went with the Truxedo Centry CT for about the same cost.

I just decided to purchase the truxedo Ct after did a lot research. Was narrow down to the X4s and CT due to I like the roll up cover better and my tundra doesn’t have the digital rearview mirror so I don’t want the hard cover to block my back window. Also the CT doesn’t need to relocate the bed rails when install the cover rails, however x4s does need to move down for at least 1.5 inches. Other reason as you mentioned the CT has better quality and the Velcro is better than rubber for both watertight and longevity IMO.

I have an Extang trifecta ALX. It auto locks when you drop it down. Pretty cool feature for a soft trifold. The only complaint I have about the extang ones is that you can not put the cargo rail end cap on after putting the locking mechanism on. Kind of annoying for a $500 cover

Installed the Bakflip MX4 today. Easy install and a quality kit. My first bed cover. I've had shells on the last 4 Toyota trucks thought I'd save 3k for now. v_3y68camKOgq2Ff_D1hA6Dj0Cg92B0v-_ClykIC_1f248e46ac103687043c8dc21733878921baca3d.jpg

The Bakflip MX4 uses brackets to lower the OEM rail system. Although the front rail stays in its place and isn't usable. 32iIVy1lyiCmE9G_7L8kE2cZ7quGO90Uo_riSb6H_b0850c126035e40241c5e428b16ec728b2ab143e.jpg

Good to know! Thanks for sharing. The Accessories guy at my local dealer is telling me that with their OEM tonneau (which I thought was an MX4?) and Undercover Flex, I'll lose the side rails. I'd rather keep them if possible. I also like the Retraxpro XR, but don't like that the canister will take up space. I'm already losing bed width from a 17' Silverado. Dealer told me that the canister fills with dirt/debris that rusts/ruins the cover. I'm like "Its aluminum though..." He really wants to sell me the OEM tri-fold as I'm sure it has the most margin for them .

I am in the market for a roll up tonneau cover , but I have become overwhelmed by all the different styles, options, and brands. I am looking for suggestions.

I need to open the tailgate several times a day, and I don’t want a cover that involves reseting it every time I open the tailgate.

I would like to keep the cost under $600.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

The Bak X4S uses the same relocation kit for the rails, they work perfectly and I use the tie downs for dirt bikes, never had any issue. This was the same with my 08 and Bak 2. Good system for sure and I really much prefer the roll up. I have a trifold originally on the 08 and it was great but the hinges over time broke down.

I have the Smartop bed topper on mine. 550 lb dynamic load capacity, dual locks, 14 m8 rails to mount endless accessories to it, different gas struts to it can open with whatever load you have on it. I love it.

Looks good @Ruger19. I have the same MX4 and like it so far. Does the side rails on your come just a bit short and leave a small gap at the rear end? Mine did. I called Bak about it and they sent me some stick on rubber pads that are used for this purpose on the Tacoma. They do a pretty good job of closing up that gap on the rear. But it would have been better if that rail were maybe 1/4 or 3/8 inch longer.

Anyone here have either the Pace Edwards Ultragroove electric or Retrax electric covers? My Tundra came with the OEM trifold, which is nice enough... and may be what I keep long term. But I am used to my Pace Edwards Jackrabbit retract on my Tacoma that I really like a lot. Opens without the tailgate, stops at 1' increments, etc. With a 6.5' bed the canister is not a deal breaker. Just curious if any of you have tried them and how you like them. One thing that occurred to me to also ask is what sort of security the electric remote fobs employ. Are they code hopping like the nice aftermarket alarm syst fobs? Or are they more easily hackable?
