I didn't think Hamm's was still being brewed. Came across it the other day.

Didn't make it to truck fest yesterday. Ended up having to redo rear brakes. My brakes and tires take a hell of a beating every time I go up.Took some PTO from work today to take gkids back "up" since they got screwed over yesterday. Mushrooms finally starting to show up with all the monsoon activity going on lately. Found some giant Magic mushrooms that some folks would love to poison their brain cells with...literally..for that "high". Largest I've come across. Explained to the kids to avoid these. No King Boletes yet. Maybe next week. Went to drop down to my friends property....Access blocked off by Forest Service during sometime last week. Sent pic to my friend. Not Happy. His main access to his property since 1994. To make it even more stupid there is a very nice vacation home down that way too. Needless to say the Forest Service is going to get an ear full tomorrow and most likely two lawyers wll be getting phone calls. There is a law here in CO that if you utilize a property with no interference, complaints, anything..for "X" amount of years..(17 I think) then you can claim ownership. This should get interesting indeed. This is not an isolated incident. I've seen several other access roads now blocked off. Nothing in the news, FS website, etc.....Feds sneaking around and doing things without letting anyone know about it? Never happens...:spy::spy::spy:

a lot of trails are being shut down by lawsuits from ecoterrorist groups funded by people that don't even live in this state (ex: barking dog and twin cone). it's easier for the fs to cave in to the lawsuit if no one is there to fight for the trail and the 4x4 community is becoming less and less involved in the politics and they're not supporting the groups fighting to keep the trails open. it's sad, but we'll lose a lot more trails. there's a chance that this is one of those instances. rs2477 doesn't apply in those cases. i'm guessing this is in an area that's not adopted by a club.

The thing is this road has been a property access for decades although getting heavier use nowadays by folks who don't own property there. It's a FS road that runs through private property and public land. If you were to look at a map for that area you would be totally confused. There are so many private lots dating pre 1900 interspersed with public land. Some people have built homes/cabins there. Most folks up there do not want a club to adopt. Be hard to. They don't want them going thru their property even though the road is a public road. Crazy situation indeed. I'm thinking the FS service will re-open the access road to my friends property. He has has unfettered access to for over 20 years. Doesn't make logical sense to suddenly without notice to close it knowing people are using it to get to their property. Biggest problem is the "without any notice". There are usually public hearings about road closures that truly restrict access to everyone's property.

barking dog was a county road that led to a few private claims and one owner from nm got it shut down because he didn't like it being public either. good luck to your friend, but the nimby attitude prevents me from having pity on the folks up there.

rs2477 does not guarantee motorized travel. it can require as little as a footpath.

Actually no one lives there year round up near my friends property and not private "claims". These are actual property taxpaying landowners with a deed in their hand who have actually built on their land and actively use it. He is not nimby in any sense of the word. It's more nomfpy. heh..heh. Not On My Freaking Property! IE...in his "yard". Doesn't have a problem with people that respect his private property when passing through it on his road. Emphasis on "passing through". He has never blocked access through his property to anyone passing through to public land. Just doesn't want people entering his property off the forest service road dumping their trash, shooting up the place, camping, cutting his trees, hunting without permission which has been occurring. If people kept doing that on my property..I'd have an attitude too. As far as RS2477, which is very convoluted at best, there is a big difference with sportsmen and offroaders insisting on having access rights on private roads thru private properties to gain access to public lands than having existing roads and trails on public land closed off. Many long used existing public land roads have been used unimpeded by private land owners ,for decades in many cases, to get to their properties. Properties that they may even have purchased years ago from the feds. How does the government expect the people get to their properties? By helicopter? I am curious how it turns out. I'm thinking a rational compromise can be worked out where everyone benefits.

you stated the road was a forest service road, not a private road and that there was also public land. so if he and the other landowners don't want the public to have access to a forest service road and the public land around it, that's nimby. i understand getting pissed because people trash stuff. that happens in the city too. but we dont shut down the road through downtown denver because the transients are building their tent homes and throwing trash in the grassy areas.

this is where a club adoption can help. clubs log thousands of hours every year doing trail maintenance and 95% of that is cleaning up after the slobs. i'd rather not share my paradise with the world either, but such is life.

I never said anyone up there wanted to deny the public access to the forest service road including my friend. Does he like people driving onto his property? Of course not. Does he want a bunch of Jeeps on his property? Of course not. He can clean up his own property. Doesn't need nor want a club to do it. Not a nimby thing. Quite the opposite. It's a forest service road that passes thru public and private land and NO ONE has ever been denied access by anyone. The road in question that got closed was the main access road from the forest service road that leads down to several private properties. Offroaders, atv'ers, you name it, will go down the public access road to get to forest service land, Michigan Hill, adjacent to my friends property. No problem. A cool place to explore, camp, hunt, whatever. Go there myself. The problem is people would drop down off that public access road onto my friends private, emphasis on "private", dead end road that is clearly marked as private property which it is and no public land beyond his property to get to. No reason for anyone to trespass because that is exactly what is going on. Prosecutable. Most people will just turn around, others will stay and use the property like they own it. Not their piece of paradise and my friend doesn't have to share either. His choice. He will allow access to his property if you just to the simple thing and "ask" like I did years ago. Doesn't sound too nimby to me. There is a sign up there with his name and phone# to get permission although MOST don't. Nothing to do with club adoption which is a good thing but irrelevant in this particular situation. Not sure what this has to do with Denvers' homeless problem. The forest service decided to close off the access road that drops down to my friends and other private properties and the public access to Michigan Hill. My friend didn't close the road. He wanted the road left OPEN. The FEDS closed it. I don't know how to state it any clearer. Again..........Nothing to do with nimbys. The good news is that my "nimby" friend informed me last night that due to his formal complaint the road in question has been re-opened for EVERYONE to use like before. (For the time being)......... Sheesh. Keep in mind I'm being a little sarcastic here. Although the road up to the properties isn't officially adopted, I've seen a Jeep and a FJ club up there hauling out trash that was dumped up there. Good people who want to continue having access. There will always be asshats to clean up after.

The whole road situation is confusing up there. I shouldn't have said "going through" their property. My bag on that. I should of stated "going onto" their property. You literally have small pockets of Forest Service land interspersed with private land. Most of the private land up there was divvied up over a 130 years ago from the govt to encourage mining and homesteading. Clearly causing a lot of confusion to this day. Especially confusing for hunters. Makes road access/ private property issues a piece of cake.

I've have a 18 "McCullough chainsaw I really like made by Husqvarna. I also have a great but hard starting Stihl 10" I used to cut pecker poles up in AK. I was in Sears Saturday and saw the new re-designed line of Craftsman chainsaws. Was taken aback somewhat since they looked like they have Husqvarna DNA. Did some quick googling and found out sure enough that they are indeed made by Husqvarna. Although not as beefy as a Husqvarna Ranch still pretty decent. Oregon bar and chain. I grabbed up a 20" with a Husqvarna X-Torq 50cc power plant. (Same as the Husqvarna $370 450 Ranch). List...$280. Special friends and family sale price.....$179.99 OTD/w carrying case and mfr 2 year waranty. Runs like a charm and definitely hi torq. A great saw to toss in the back and take it along up to the boonies..(The new re-designed Poulan Pro PR5020 is pretty much the same other than cosmetics differences.)

I have a good feeling about this visit for you Matt. All will go well and you can come home and celebrate with those Grandkids. I still see my "C" doc every 5-6 months, but its been 4-1/2 years clear so we just sit in the exam room and talk about Tundra mods. Granted he drives a BMW or Lexus or something, but the Tundra is the main focus. Sending well wishes your way . Just so you know, no pun intended with the thumbs up seeing that you may be seeing your ass doc too....

He is a very short Asian man ( that I owe my life to ), so he may have issues getting in and out of the Tundra. Come to think of it, I have some mod skills ( maybe 4 corner air-ride to drop it to the ground for easy access ) ????

I'm pretty sure the bill was enough to buy a couple of tundras.. The good bill of health is the most important however.

I hear that...it's good to have some levity, a sense of humor mixed in with a little sarcasm in these situations. Bad news is my friend and long time coworker...Bill..the guy I went to 3 earth shattering RUSH concerts here..passed away two weeks ago from "complications" with his brain tumor. On August 24th, we are having a "Celebration of Life" memorial at the Wings over the Rockies museum. Bill was a huge RUSH fan.Huge. Also a big time airplane modeler and airplane history expert. His modeling friends will be there too. His modeling club held several events at the "Wings". Hard to miss the museum......A B-52 out front. A B-2 trainer inside.Several legacy aircraft inside, including a F4U under restoration similar to what my dad flew in China in 1947 as a Marine aviator. Life can suck at times. Can really suck. My grandkids make all the difference. Semper Fi.(Bet you didn't know Marine aviators were flying combat support OPs in China afterWW2. Google it. Not doing your homework. I do enough homework with my grandkids as it is.)

Well.... Saw the Doc this morning. Was pleased with my progress. I forgot to have blood drawn last week for latest PSA/Testosterone levels. Doing that tomorrow AM. I see my new radiologist/oncologist Monday for radiation regimen. My Urologist wants me to go on Zytiga if insurance approves. Zytiga is usually used in terminal situations which I'm not. In terminal situations it can add 4 months or more life. Great...Doc says it has less side affects than chemo. The kicker is it's $8 to $9K per monthly dose for a two year treatment plan for me. Sheesh......

On a lighter note.....I ordered two more FN BFD rims giving me 8 in total. I've been beating the crap out of my Cooper STT Pros every weekend. I want them to last since they've gone up $50 in price per tire since last year. Going to only run them during summer/fall. My second set of BFDs are going to be very happy....They are going to be shoed with the 295/70/18, 34.5", Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxxs'. Going to have them get extra siping done at Big O this weekend. I'm totally sold on Cooper tire quality. The STTs and MAXXs are more pricey than Nitto Trail Grappler M/Ts at 275/70/18, but the Nittos' are more @ 295/70/18. Go figure.

Matt, I'm so sorry to hear about your long time friend. I personally know 2 friends with brain tumors, they are each doing well. Great to hear you are doing well and fingers crossed the insurance company does its job for your treatment plan. Best news is your rim and tire collection is growing. (priorities 1st). Be well my friend !
