Loving the new truck. Its been 15 years since my last turbo vehicle (2004 WRX STi), and I find my self wishing the turbos sounded lounder. On my STi I could hear the turbo at idle, On my tundra, even during spirited driving session I can only hear them sing if I turn the radio off. Anyone have any tips for increasing the turbo noise?

Your STI didn’t have any sound deadening. Your tundra has a ton of it. Do with that information what you will.

Sound deadening has absolutely zero to do with this

Don't have a 3rd Gen, but as a fellow 04 (non STI) owner I'll be following.

Get the TRD filters or AFE intake kits. You can also add the BMS BOV plates and get that psssshhh sound you're probably used to.

It sure does. Quieting the cabin will deaden sound from the engine bay, including flowing air from the turbos.

I don’t think you’ll hear a blowoff valve on the tundra

Cold air intake will remove the baffles so you can hear the turbo.

Recirculation is pretty quiet which is why the suby guys used to put the open air blow off valves on their cars. Those things are LOUD.

I had an 02 wagon, 05 STI (rally x car), 11 and a 12, as well as an 05 legacy GT wagon. currently running an 06 Outback XT with a new factory STI short block with a vf52 and d25 heads on it(bumps the compression ratio up (.4-.5pts) It’s tuned for 300hp and 325tq at the wheels and it’s a HOOT to drive with the 5spd manual in it.

I always liked the blob eye and the Hawkeye the best in the looks department, but I really love my wagons and the extra refinement and space of the legacy was welcome as I got older.

nice lookin car dude, take car of it.

Nah, Blow off valves can screw with your a/f ratio on MAF engines, I kept stock recirc valve, even on 400hp tune.

It truly was an amazing car, fast, sounded AWESOME, handled well, 4 doors and decent sized truck. You could go surfing in the morning and skiing in the after noon all in the same car

Where are these baffles? Can they be easily removed?

Open top intakes is probably your best bet. I know on the Ecoboosts, any of the closed box intakes still dont make any noise. I have an S&B on my F150 and its dead quiet.

My gen2 Raptor had plenty of sound deadening and a nice quiet cabin, stock turbos were very noticeable even with windows up, the turbos on these Tundras can barely be heard with the windows down, so I disagree with you on this

On one of my Cummins powered trucks I removed the silencer ring on the turbo. That really increased the turbo sound….so much it went right back in a couple weeks later after a long trip to Moab.

The turbo in my Duramax doesn’t have a removable silencer ring.

I’m beginning to think there isn’t even a turbo on the new GEN Tundras.

Same. My boy just hit up Harry's and he ordered 2 T66 turbos, with NOS, and a Motec system exhaust to swap in.
