I hope Toyota don't go this route with their pickups. A 2024 stepside tundra single cab short bed SR trd 4x4 off-road with a 5.7 with a rear locker bench seat and column shifter for the transmission and a floor shifter for the transfer case is where it's at.

I was gunna say, there is a company here in Utah that stretches cabs and frames for three rows. I saw a GMC 3500 HD with three doors in my town recently.

Did you actually look at the design? Its pretty cool how they did it. Both the 1st and 2nd row slide on tracks and there are two jump seats mounted on the back wall of the cab.

With how much space there is in a modern crew cab pickup its almost stupid not to have some kind of option like that. My F150 has like 2' of space between my knees and the front seat when I sit in the back, its actually kind of obnoxious and unnecessary. I wish someone made a cab between the current double cabs and crew cabs where it has a reasonable amount of space for passengers but not 25' of legroom like they are. Maybe save 6" of wheelbase.

From my perspective, a pickup truck has two separate body components, the cab and the bed, which can be removed separately. An SUV has a single integrated body. That makes the Ridgeline, Alalanche, and similar vehicles sold as 'trucks' actually open back SUV's to me.

I'm shopping for a new truck now and have limited options because I need a front bench seat. 2.5 gen SR5 here I come.

I'm actually somewhat intrigued by this idea. I'd rather tow my travel trailer with a truck than an SUV but it's going to be an interesting adventure putting 3 kids in car seats in the back seat of a pickup, even if mine does have the second biggest cab on the market.

The Ridgeline has a separate bed from the cab... Not a fan of it, but lets at least describe it properly.

If I were to call Ridgeline anything it would be a car I guess lol the tiny wheels and wheel wells that just looks funny to me. I group it in with the Hyundai Santa Fe

I assume you guys mean the Santa Cruz. The Santa Fe is no worse than any other compact crossover.

I am not arguing for the Ridgeline in any manner. Just clarifying a point about it.

The box and cab are separate. I'm not sure you could remove the box without lifting the cab first, as they fit tightly and the cab overhangs the box front lip. Hiding the fact they are distinct parts even further.

Nah, an open back SUV is like an old 4runner or bronco or FJ.

I am not sure why they put the line to separate them... Its a unibody little thing... but Honda clearly wanted it to look like a suv with a bed.

    I'll be an outlier.

I actually like the function of the Santa Cruz and similar suv's with a bed.

For those that have small household projects that will never need a full size truck. Will only haul 6 bags of mulch. Or just want a small bed to move things around in, vehicles like the Santa Cruz is perfect for them.

It's an SUV with a bed that can haul things to keep out of the inside of a cabin. Its got its place in the market. Obviously us on this forum is not the target audience but I could see it other places.

Interesting. It looks like the newer ones are separate, but the original ones were not. I haven't see the new ones and don't know what model year that change was made or how they did it.

More importantly, I am not sure why they made them appear separate when the vehicle is a unibody constructed platform.
