I'm trying to swap out my blown JBL speakers (cone is ripped), and swap in some Infinity Reference speakers. I posted in the general audio section, but feel it will be overlooked. I'd like to get some traction on the install this weekend if possible.

I ordered a wiring harness and speaker surrounds from Crutchfield that are supposed to fit. The speaker surround fits fine, but the harness doesn't even come close. I looked on Metra's speaker harness website, and the harnesses they have listed for my Tundra aren't even close. I attached a picture of the factory harness for reference. I'm not wiring savvy, so any helpful direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I didnt think the connectors they send were for the split off to the tweeter and woofer. I believe there should be 2 connectors for each door. 1 for the tweeter in the top portion and then a second for the woofer in the bottom. I am assuming you have a Gen 1 (2000-3006) Tundra as that is where you are posting ;)

When I initially did my radio and speaker upgrade, prior to amp and subs, I used all factory wiring and mounts. I cut the woofer wires right at the woofer and spliced the terminals there. That way I didnt have to run any new wiring. Same for the tweeter. The factory speakers do have a marking on the positive side so that does make it easier.

Fast forward 5years later and I have completely rewired all the speakers so I could use an amp and also installed new front door speakers, a component set with crossovers and 2 subs in the storage compartment.

Look at the pics on the Crutchfield site. They show the 4 pin connector ( which is where the tweeter and woofer split) as well as the individual speaker connectors.

As you can see from my left member panel I have an '05 Tundra double cab. I spoke to the tech support folks at Crutchfield and they did the best they could, but weren't helpful. I really wanted a plug and play and didn't want to splice the wiring. But... it appears I will have to do so. Thank you for your reply and insight.

You shouldnt have to "splice" into the main harness. Just where the old speakers are. That 4 pin connector is further up the system than where you need to go. Cut right at the speakers, install a butt splice and use about 8-10 inches of the wiring that comes with the new speakers.

Probably so. I'll have to head to the store and grab some butt splice connectors. My speakers didn't come with any wiring so I'll grab that too. Thanks for your info.

Can you snap a pic of the harness that came from crutchfield and a pic of your factory door speakers and the wiring that goes into them?

I got it. I appreciate your time. I got a different Crutchfield person to help out. The wiring harness they sent me is for the 2006 and newer non JBL system. So the connector is totally different--a T shape with two spade connectors, one vertical and the other horizontal. So I will have to splice, but their directions is simpler.

Beat me to it. Glad you got it worked out. Better yet, they should update their infobase to make sure others get the right one - as long as they plug in the correct vehicle info.
