That's cool, he seems like a decent supervisor.

Not terrible at all, I like the peace and quiet on nights. Occasionally we'll cook a meal and watch a movie in the control room. I get along great with my chief, others aren't so lucky!

No control room life for me, I like working on the units.
There is other positions I can always bid on if I get burnt out here. Substation/ switch yard wireman, transformer shop wireman etc..
We're seniority based here so as wireman I basically "top out" as a foreman when I'm eligible.

Very similar to my little bunker, but yours looks comfier. If it were allowed I'd put up a picture. Basically, more crowded room with big screens on the walls, and small ones at the desks.

Edit: lower budget too.

 

Our control room looks similar too, I'll see if I can find a picture on my phone.

 

Yeah, it's kinda funny. I've had both the worst and best bosses at this company. Glad that my supervisor and the boss above him are good ones. Very much appreciate that I don't have to have a stick up my tailpipe when talking with them.


Not sure I'd like a seniority based scale. I work with a guy who I think came from that kind of culture, and he puts in the absolute minimum and wants rewards before doing more. Here, in this department at least, the only thing seniority counts for is as a last resort tie breaker.



It's good to get along with the boss, but sucks if people think you're the office fluffer for it.

 

Yikes. Not sure I understand why that's a bad feeling being in the control room though. Are you actively in charge of flow and such, so that arc was something that could be blamed on you, or just not great because it meant SHTF?

 

There is a little of that but we try and hold our shop accountable. A half decent person isn't going to coast if the rest of the crew is working hard.

 

Ah, I didn't know you had guys actively working, so that I can relate to. Always sketchy when you have something off and can't reach the techs on the ground. Snow cat travel to some of our cell sites has given me these same feelings.

 

Not worth posting, I would have to blur most of it out.

 

Oh, so you REALLY get along with your with your chief. Would have to blur out how you two "interact" in the control room.
