Today was the day to tackle the master bathroom fan replacement. It's an old Broan Heater fan combo with 70 CFM and I'd like to say it sucks ass, but that would make it seem like it worked. Replacing it with a Panasonic 130 CFM monster fan and light that I found on clearance at Lowes.

This part of the house was built in 1895 or so. Didn't think about the shiplap above the ceiling sheetrock (adds an inch to the depth) until I woke up this morning. Old fan is a rectangular shape, new fan is a square.

Because of the fan bracing sitting on top of the shiplap, I had to rig up a frame out of scrap wood to try to fill in some of the holes. It has corner brackets and then I reinforced it with gorilla tape. It even has some drywall stabbers because I couldn't find any shorter screws (I'll cut them tomorrow. I figure somebody will be opening this thing up in the future and wonder who the idiot was that rigged it up, so I signed it. :hattip:

I sealed it up with mold resistant silicone. Sheetrock is on the agenda for tomorrow. Painting in the near future. It's still just venting into the attic so I hope to get up there and put a vent in the soffit soon.

Oh, I also added a humidistat switch so it'll turn on automatically when the humidity hits a certain level or climbs significantly.

Window replacement estimates came in on or below budget o_O so now we proceed to reno on Master Bath ; complete Gut job BUT I will not have

    to ever do it AGAIN..

If all goes well & nothing blows-up the budget we may try to complete the whole house list before 2023 leaves us..

I do like how y'all throwing ideas and solutions on the circulation fans.. :hattip: Gives me a great starting point and references to come back too.

We need windows too. Did you go with a national company? I've been debating who I want to call for estimates.

We called three local companies and two showed up

Sadly of those two , one has been straight forward and A dam good price PLUS , a few of our neighbors used them and have nothing but good to

say, including some warranty work being done with absolutely no hassle .

While pricing from the two was within a few hundred for the house, the pricing on two doors and finishing our Florida room did # 2 in....and I still

    haven't received a completed quote :(..

Now that was the EASY part....Getting my Bride to make decisions on the Master bath o_O :annoyed: :spending::spending::spending::spending:

Do your home work on Every contractor, there are more bad than good sadly

This will be our 2nd complete reno and I'm still married :fistbump::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Once upon a time they were breezeways, then some dam fool screened them in..

Then to make his bride Happy , he put vinyl windows up , then this led to sliding vertical vinyl windows :eek2:

Now the Woman of the house wants "Better" windows and Husband smartens the hell up; fully enclosed room with sliding horizontal tinted safety

windows and climate control.... adds 10-15 years onto husbands' life expectancy :hattip:

Got the sheetrock up and attached to the ceiling around the bathroom exhaust fan. The wood underneath the sheet rock made it impossible for me to tell where it was nailed but it made it a hell of a lot easier to attach the replacement piece. I taped and gave it a quick coat. Hope to work on it more tomorrow to add more coats and smooth it out. It ain’t perfect but I also didn’t have to pay anybody.

I cut it with a really cool Milwaukee oscillating saw blade made for cutting sheet rock. It was kinda hard to cut a straight line though when I was doing it over my head. It worked great though.

It's really a great house - I just wish I had the money and the abilities to take care of it the way it needs.

But I’m learning and should be winning the lottery any day now. :)

Finished the wiring enough to get one socket working. Added some wood for a breaker box with 2 circuit breakers. Routed wires thru studs to get to back of shed. Added some more wood for mounting of the outlet. Added a other dual box at the front for later. I attached a light so it’s easier to see. Good enough so I don’t need an outside extension cord to the shed from the house. Also installed 2 fans in the crawl space on two vents. I went with my own design, as I do not need anything fancy for a fan in there imo. 315470D4-3B06-4F97-8A90-CADD4F5929B7.jpg 846F0A2C-98EE-4F8A-978D-BF050F94E57E.jpgF40B91E5-37DF-4B74-8F3F-406AA97F7642.jpgA575C365-6CC5-4C0F-964A-31CB44B81172.jpg

They make a pretty high end Valspar that I used when I was repainting my bro-in-laws rental and it covered some pretty bright, horrendous colors in one coat. I had to touch up a bit but that was because I didn't roll it on thick enough in places.

    The Dirty T ( ^_^)_且

Just paint the whole damn house white. So much easier and cleaner looking. Plus, if you use an airless sprayer that feeds out of a 5 gal bucket you can do everything at once, walls, trim, and ceiling. I painted my entire house in a few hours that way. Sure, we took everything out and spent a week taping and masking, but that's missing the point that it only took a little time to actually paint, which I hate doing.

    Thank you, good to know..

I'll price that against the S&W... that's what I used in Ft. Myers but it was part of their supply bid...If you have your shit together with a purchase list

    Yeah right,

I am married to an Artist... that framed sunflower is one of hers....

I 'm lucky she wants the whole house one color on the walls..:p....We had 2 accent walls in the old place , teal facing the Riva' and a warm Violet for

    the Master...

I'll prep /fill & sand then paint ... trim and ceilings will stay white while the live floors will be a slightly darker grey...

I've got a month to complete it all before the daughter & family visit...Piece of cake :fistbump: and then the windows will be installed 1st week in

    May

Been there done that. Our old house had different colors for most rooms. The the ceilings were one shade different than the walls. Yep, my wife is an artist.
When we moved, in selling the house the sales gal staged the house. It was painted one color on the inside for most of the rooms. The different paint and staged furniture made the place look like someone else’s home, and was at that point it was no longer our house.
Our new home was walls a custom color and the ceilings white. $$$$.
    Have fun.

I understand the cost over run, over schedule, over budget. Wife originally wanted a tuff shed in the back yard to store Christmas decorations. One year in, finally nearing completion...69405200903__CB21D6B6-805F-4EE5-8DAC-0DC281AA5BD4.jpgIMG_5726.jpgIMG_5727.jpg

Took your advice today and did exactly what you said. My dad came over and we cut a hole in my ceiling big enough to work in. From there I fed in 10' of exhaust duct from outside.

The only issue we ran into is that the direct path was blocked by my HVAC duct. I had to lift that will he pushed my dryer duct under that. Then we propped
my HVAC ductwork with two bricks because it was going to crush my dryer duct from the weight. I hope that's not going to be an issue for the HVAC ductwork.

The last step tomorrow will be making my floor hole a tad bigger to feed the semi rigid flex duct through.

Ideally, use wood blocking to hold up the hvac, and actually attach it to the joist holding it up - screw a 2x6 to the face of the joist maybe or some scrap plywood. Just keeps from having two loose bricks up there…
Otherwise, looks like you’re on the right track!
