So, some food for thought regarding the bourbon 'phenomenon' and its trends in production, availability, and market pricing....

Buffalo Trace completed its 6,000,000th barrel in 2008... The time lapse between the 5,000,000th and 6,000,000th barrels was 27 years!

    upload_2023-1-2_11-2-21.jpg

It's 7,000,000th barrel was completed in 2018; only 10 years after the 6,000,000th. In other words production between the 2 milestones was almost tripled.

The 8,000,000th barrel was completed just a few days ago; only a little over 4 years after the 7,000,000th. Production rate between these 2 milestones was again increased. This time the milestone was achieved 2 1/2 times as fast as the previous milestone; or in other words, production of Buffalo Trace bourbon has increased over 6.5 times as it was being produced in 2008. At the same time 'market pricing' has continued to inflate at almost the same rate (and even more so for some of the more exclusive product). So when we pay 2, 3, 5 or even 10 times MSRP on a bottle of bourbon (I saw a bottle of Pappy 23 on the shelf in Coronado about 7 years ago for over $3,000) it's not because the product has become that rare but more so due to demand, trends and some creative marketing. Just something to think about....

    upload_2023-1-2_11-5-58.jpg

Also, new life goal: I need to get my hands on a bottle from one (or all) of these barrels... :D

I was there the day before they hit 8 million. They have a whole ceremony and roll it out across the property to its own single barrel rickhouse to age until they hit the next million.

I did find a bottle of 6 million available on Wooden Cork for a cool $8k

    That's awesome!!! New life goals!!!!

But, I've got to say $8k for a bottle is nuts and beyond my means...

I may be a bit of a purist when I say this, but I think bourbon was meant to be enjoyed and shared with family and friends. It wasn't meant to sit on a shelf or to be resold or auctioned off to the highest bidder. Even my best bottles (nowhere near that level) have been opened, poured, shared and enjoyed as I believe it was meant to be.

Supposed to be some great tasting Bourbon. I heard it was voted bourbon of the year but I don’t know if that’s true. Picked up a few extras for a couple buddies. A9F56AA3-EF95-411B-9FC6-3AFABA509EF1.jpg

This was the first time I’ve had Old Rip. It was enjoyable to have with a great steak dinner.

Just opened this today, not too bad. Hits the palate pretty good but a spicy finish, I added one cube after and it made it a little smoother.

I know Whisky Advocate ranked it #1 on their list of "Top 20 Whiskies of 2020". At that time it was Batch B520. I was fortunate enough to have a buddy who didn't like it after one pour (his loss) and gave it to me. Needless to say, I enjoy it :)

I now see Batch C922 won Breaking Bourbon's #1 Whiskey of 2022. That's awesome! I have a couple different older batches and like them all. Enjoy!

Stagg Jr is great even the first crack, so while this is good it is still j.v. level stuff in my opinion. I am hoping it mellows out a bit after being open.

The one good thing that I can say came from the pandemic was my new passion for whiskey/bourbon. I went from having a couple bottles, to having just a "few" bottles lol

Although I did crack an Hibiki 21 for Bryan Doyle Murray at a wedding reception last year...I was kind of torqued he didn't bring brother Bill which was rumored since we were going to have an entire Suntory time moment from his movie Lost in Translation. Oh well...

I opened a bottle of 1910 with my son a few nights ago - the first Old Forester I'd tried - and it only has one shot left. I'd like the 1920 I'm sure, but it's too hot to sit and sip with cigars for 5 hours like I like.

I like the 1910 but the 1920 hits all the notes for me. 5 hours that's some pretty good sipping.

In the wild??? Or did you win a lottery? Either way, very nice! I've been curious about THH, but not willing to drop $1100 at my local shop for it. I was fortunate enough to have won a GTS a couple years ago though. I feel like you can't go wrong with any of the BTACs.

State lottery... so when we are selected it's MSRP. This bottle was $99.95 (definitely worth it). It's good, but not $1100 good. Grab a bottle of basic Sazerac Rye (around $50) and you'll get the same flavor profiles.. the Sazerac 18 and THH are both similar in their various profiles, but you'll find that some of those profiles are significantly intensified.

Nice! Yeah, that’s how it is here in VA too. I enjoy Sazerac Rye, and have a few myself, that’s why I was curious if it was worth the price some ask for it. Admittedly, I’ve spent more than retail on several bottles, but now that I have a nice selection, I’m not about those secondary prices anymore! Lol

If you find a bottle of it under $200, I'd say it's worth trying... anymore than that, it's just inflated BS and novelty. Good luck!!!!
