    2023 Tundra 1794 - Stolen!
Hi all - i recently bought a 2023 Tundra 1794 that was a cancelled order. It automatically came with tow mirrors from the factory - i have found them to obstruct my view when looking over to the passenger window for on-coming traffic. I believe this to be a design flaw and if you agree with me I am asking you to please make a formal complaint to Toyota head office so this can be investigated and hope they will give us an option to switch to regular mirrors at minimal to no cost. After spending $80K on this truck it is beyond me that you can’t opt out of this option.

    Okay. Couple things.

    1. They’re giant tow mirrors, of course they’ll obstruct the view.

    2. you don’t have to buy it.

    3. You can opt out of tow mirrors, it’s called buying one without.

Not a design flaw. Just swap with someone on here who wants to trade their normal mirrors for towies

actually no you can’t- in Canada at least the 1794 edition 6.5box only comes with tow mirrors. There is no option to downgrade or change it I checked on the website and asked the dealer. Might be different in the US as there are a number of differences in the US with these trucks.

Option not to buy truck at all. Or buy different trim to get the mirrors you want. Or as I suggested, deal with the reality of the situation and find someone to swap you. Easily remedied. Unless you were hoping for the confrontation with “Toyota” or your dealer or something. In that case, carryon.

Bet someone will gladly swap with you. Just make a new thread so they don’t know it will obstruct their view. :D

Also need to have 50 posts here, legit posts, not shit-posts to be eligible for Buy Sell Trade. Hang out a while, interact, add something to the discussions or just ask questions. You’ll hit the 50 before you know it and can post a swap offer for someone else to immediately accept.

Buy a different trim??? What about the 1794 edition/platinum trim should require a customer to have tow mirrors? Its not a heavy duty truck. Swapping is an option but i prefer to do everything through the dealer. I have spoken to a couple of others with these and they feel the same about the tow mirrors.

    thanks for you input

Canadian platinums all have tow mirrors it’s ridiculous that it’s not an option, for me it was a reason to stay at the limited.

Toyota gets to build the trucks how they want. You get to spend the money how you want. Neither can make the other do what they don’t want. Good luck with your mission.

I see. Canadian spec. I’d honestly not purchase one at all if that was the only option

I wouldn’t mind the tow mirrors for my incoming Limited. I couldn’t find one with. Aren’t there switches (dash and door) that need to be swapped as well?

I really like the tow mirrors . Just swap them out . Ask the dealer to order a set and sell them . There is a very big demand for them .

It's a very costly process. My dealer flat refused to order me regular mirrors and install them. One poster here had to pay 6k to get tow mirrors installed/swapped. Something about the switches and harnesses are all different. I have a Pro coming with tow mirrors and don't need them.

I would like to see pictures of these mirrors. I find my standard mirrors inadequate when backing my enclosed trailer.

Thank you. I they seem nice. I imagine it would be quite a project/expense getting those on my SR5, as I don't have all those electric feaatures/controls.

Correct. I am working with the dealer but there seems to be a lot of unknowns including a back order on the regular mirrors. Ill let you know what happens and if these come off will let you know if you’d like to buy them at that point.

It’s the stupidest thing that you can’t buy tow mirrors as an accessory! Ffs !
Industry leader and built as ultimate tow rig in half ton category, yet spending $65000 isn’t enough money to get tow mirrors and can’t add them to your package

Update: my toyota dealership here in Toronto, Ontario is filling out a report on my behalf regarding the large tow mirrors blocking my view considerably while driving, particularly while making turns. If any of you are experiencing the same and I know some of you have expressed dislike of these tow mirrors then I am encouraging you to do the same at your local dealership. This may not be an issue for US customers as its my understanding that you can add the tow mirrors if you want as an upgrade. However in canada all platinums+ come with them and it’s difficult to downgrade to the regular mirrors or the cost is too high??(not clear on this part yet). The only way I can see toyota doing something about this is if enough customers report the same issue.

here’s a costing from another thread to swap - up to tow mirrors - but it illustrates the challenge - seems under the shell the 2 mirror systems are very different, wiring harnesses etc & it’s more than taking one off & adding the other.

Get use to it,see I ordered that PKG and in the beginning they were a bit big and an obstruction but I knew it would just be a matter of time to "get use to them",I wouldn't change a thing now.

BTW some people here would love to have them and have spent big cash on em and not to mention how to wire them up.

Congrats on your new Rig and all the best.

The dealer had given me a quote for the regular mirrors, can’t remember but I believe around $1500 for the pair??
He said he would need to bring it in try and install but if it didn’t work I would need to pay the restocking fee.

before i was able to get to it my Tundra was stolen and my neighbour has had 2 brand new tundra’s stolen.

How are thieves able to steal these trucks? Are they able to hotwire them? Or are they stealing them with tow trucks? Any idea? Asking because I’d prefer not to have mine stolen.
