New truck. Tried to do the caliberate trailer here in the country and it failed. Small 10ft. enclosed trailer I need to pull tomorrow and I can't back without the truck slamming on the brakes. Tried with the trailer switch on and off. How do I turn off the backing up slamming to a stop until I get a chance to do the caliberate in a big lot? Scared the crap out of me the first time it stopped.
    Thanks in advance.

Try turning off the radar sensors, switch on the left side of steering wheel. The button with the picture of a traffic cone on it

Took me 3 or 4 attempts to get my trailer calibrated. It was very sensitive to speed (stay under 10mph, I ended up around 5mph when it finally worked), how sharp I was turning (get to wheel lock ASAP) and how quickly I straightened out the wheel after the turn (ASAP).

Does it work any better if you enter the length of the trailer into the trailer configuration rather than using the calibration method?

i manually entered the information about the trailer but still needed to calibrate it and set the gain on the trailer brakes.

WOW. All that to back up a trailer. At one time in this nation's history successfully backing up a trailer using just your mirrors got ya the girl.

This happens with my pontoon boat also. The only way I've found to stop it is to turn off every sensor you can in the in-dash menu. It is the most obnoxious thing ever! Then you have to put it in park and back to drive and can't back up with the door open to see better. Way to much shitty safety features in this one.

Honestly IMO if you can't back up a trailer without assistance you should not be attaching on to your truck..... Just my two cents!

It's more than just backup though. What I liked was the side traffic warning light in the mirror factors in the length of the trailer. I tried using that feature where it backs up for you but I couldn't figure out how to make it work. Definitely not as slick as Ford's system that uses the dial to steer the trailer.

I didn't have any adjustments to do for my 5x8 utility trailer. I did turn off the rear cross thing with a cone on the dash though. I also adjusted for the length of the trailer , but that has nothing to do with backing it up.

Wow! Everyone’s quick to comment. OP never stated he couldn’t manually back the truck. Par for the course that the peanut gallery chimes in when they don’t even own a 3rd gen:monocle: OP is simply trying to work the technology that’s installed and that he paid for.

Not disagreeing with you and got no skin in the game but to play devil's advocate, why didn't the OP refer to the manual to see if they were doing it correctly or YouTube it?

I get why the other side is criticizing OP. Nothing that they said shows me as an objective reader that they eliminated all common sense options before asking in the forums. Everyone's assuming. Just my thoughts.

Still don't get why the only negative comments are from non 3rd genners. Seems to be trolling. OP never stated that he didn’t read the manual. I guess some people assume they can go to a forum, designed and dedicated to other owners, and ask a question without having to show some kind of proof they are worthy or eliminated all other common sense options. It appears this tech is not so common sense.
I’ve made some snarky comments, but usually only to point out others of the same. In the end, we all get to choose to be helpful or not. Like the old saying, “ got nothin’ good to say? Don’t say it at all” Just my worthless random internet guy opinion.

We aren't judged by our intentions but our actions. Again, not trying to be combative but just my observations of both the requestor and responders. People like to teach how they've been taught and some people's idea of humor can be another's insult.

One thing's for certain - people can explain it to you but they can't comprehend it for you.

Edit: 3rd gen or not, I only made the comment about common sense and verifying the manuals because help can only come from the process of elimination. No one knows how much OP knows. Any extended time in the forums on any generation truck and it's always a commonality amongst everyone. Hence, why we all always refer to the forum rules or the Sticky threads or search bar, etc.

For the money I do not understand why they even have something like this. Just another thing to mess up!!!

    Lots of stuff!
A buddy has an F150 and for about a year he messed around with that backup tech. Finally, just gave up. He has several different trailers which made this more complicated.

When we were shopping for our truck. We thought that the backup would be interesting. Since we wanted a Limited, the decision for backup assistance was solved.

I have a backup camera on the trailer so we had lots to fall back on. In the few trips we have taken with the Tundra, I find the mirrors enough and my wife at the back to make sure I don’t back into anything.

Sometimes high tech came make things more complicated if it doesn’t work or is easy to implement. It makes matters worse if you are on a time frame adding pressure to the situation.

Not directed at OP or anyone else as this is a new fangled tech related issue, but as a general statement in regards to trailer backing….. some people have just got it, and others it’s just not natural!

Very true, backing up a trailer somehow messes with your head because of the way we are taught to drive. If you steer from the bottom of the steering wheel while backing up like I was taught, its much easier.

2023 sequoia here. It also slams on the brakes with the trailer attached in reverse. It seems to think it’s going to run into the trailer it’s attached to lol. Any help would be appreciated. This is with the trailer programmed in and plugged in.
