My first winter week

Ugh, hate to lay on the gripes already as well, but I'm running into the same issues. 3-month old '22 Capstone, northern Vermont. This is definitely not a cold-weather vehicle. Here's what I got:
-Tailgate freezes in place to the OEM hard tonneau
-Sensors ice up, creating alert messages, rendering several systems (cruise control, parking assist, etc.) disabled.
-Side mirrors freeze in place (will leave them in extended position over the winter to mitigate this)
>Even when there has been no snow/freezing precipitation, when the temp is below freezing, the driver's side mirror will extend all the way forward when opening the door if it was retracted in auto mode. It will position correctly after putting the switch in the "retracted" position and then back to auto
>I'm afraid this has damaged the mechanism on the driver's side, since even when the temp is above freezing, the mirror will not always "lock" into place, and will wiggle around noticeably in the wind.
-Driver's window had frozen in place when I went to leave a parking garage last night. Ended up having to get out of my brand new 2,000-mile vehicle to pay the parking charge because the window would not open.
-Others have mentioned the sunroof leaking.. I have noticed this one sweats a LOT when there is snow and ice on the roof and it is warm inside. I don't use the shade because it exacerbates the problem. Obviously, given the issues I've had with mirrors and windows, I will not be touching the sunroof until it's 90 degrees outside.
-Snow tires were packing the retractable running boards full of slush which would freeze them in place. I've installed some low-hanging wide mud flaps and it seems to help.

All that being said, it has been an exceptionally, all-time-record-breaking warm winter so far here in Vermont. The truck hasn't seen a temperature below 15F yet. My old '08 stick-shift Frontier just seemed to work regardless of the weather. This Tundra is quite temperamental comparatively. I'm a little worried how this is going to play out.

 

My windows froze up as well. I had to open the door at the Dunkin drive thru. Also had the sensor chaos when covered with snow. I don't really fault the truck though- same thing happens with my wife's Mercedes SUV. These modern systems with a ton of cameras and sensors are just not a great fit for snowy conditions.

 

I was wondering if you wash your truck when it is below 20-25 degrees and let it sit outside at night? I have only had window freezing shut and motorized mirror problems when I have washed the car and let it sit outside in really cold temps. Just a thought.

Has anyone tried unplugging all the radar/forward sensors for winter time? It’ll obviously get upset, but I wonder if it will throw the same messages every 3 seconds, or just stop.

As long as you do it each key cycle though, correct? It doesn't just stay off?

 

It does not stay off. It will reset when the truck is turned off. Had to do it again this morning because of the snow still on the roads from yesterday's snowfall

 

Sooo we have had over our annual snowfall already here in Minnesota, we have had freezing ran, and obviously lots of cold. The sensor issue happens on any new vehicle , if left out, my cadi, my wifes volvo , my truck . The other issues i have experienced none of them. Mirrors work fine, no sunroof leak, tailgates never frozen, windows have never frozen shut( I have seen that in many cars new and old.) Wipers work great , wiper heater works great.

 

Glad I read this thread... My SR5 came with a fair number of options and I knew about the heated steering wheel (that is the BEST... but I wish the control button for that was ON the steering wheel), but didn't know that I also had heated mirrors and that heated windshield wiper tray until I looked more closely. Cool!

 

To add to thread. Last week low 30's not heavy rain, at this point just moisture. Drivers side window would only go down halfway and stop or would be hurky jerky all the way down. almost like skipping while going down. Anyone else?

 

My driver window will shoot back down when it closes if I use the automatic up and I can only close it if I inch it up slowly. Happens after car washes, raining days

 

It was super annoying that my lane departure assist was disabled during a blizzard. The only thing more annoying was the 16" of snow between the road and my tires.

 

You talking 0°C or F? Coldest we've had this winter is -17°F, or about -27°C. We had negative temps for about a week.

I saw lower fuel economy, but not much (12 mpg vs 14 on short, in-town trips)

1. No errors, no malfunctions
2. 4-wheel worked just fine
3. I have my mirrors set to never close
4. No cold air intruding, that I can tell
5. I don't have a sunroof because I don't like the reduced head room
6. I don't have auto dimming lights/highs, and wouldn't use them if I did because regardless of manufacturer, they don't work, even in perfect conditions
7. I have heated mirrors
8. I park in my garage like God intended, and didn't allow snow to build up on my hood or anywhere else - I wipe everything off if I'm parked outside. Most I've had is about 8" of snow on the hood, but like I said, I wipe that shit off because it's dangerous to drive with snow on the hood, roof, or elsewhere, if not for yourself, then for others on the road
9. Same as above... also, they're barely larger than my 4Runner door handles...
10. In 2wd with all-weather tires, the vehicle is potentially more stable on snow than my 4Runner with hakka R3s. It'll break loose and get squirrely if you want it to, but it'll behave if you drive reasonably.

OP, yours is a sample of one, but so is mine. I wouldn't want to drive the pickup with the issues you've described. If you address these problems with your dealer, I hope you have a positive outcome.

ETA: To all those complaining about the radar cruise - if, when turning on cruise control, you hold the cruise control button instead of pressing it, for 1.5 to 2 seconds, you get normal cruise control. I do this habitually, now, as I absolutely can't stand the cruise control braking because it thinks I'm too close to the vehicle ahead before I decide to change lanes and pass.
