I’ve read plenty of people commenting on the MPGs of their new engines and how it seems to get better with time, or after a “break in” period. Is there any actual recommendations as far as a new engine break in? Hoping to pick up my ‘23 Limited Hybrid 4x4 CM today or tomorrow.

My recommendation, 1000 miles change the oil/filter and no aggressive acceleration or long trips during this period . No aggressive breaking for 200 miles .

LOL you're crazy, but ok I want to see it. I changed my oil at 1k miles but too cheap to see the oil analysis.

The guy on YouTube who just sold his Tundra and got a Chevy did oil analysis after 10k miles first oil change and it was pretty bad...

I would follow the owner's manual on what is recommended. The engines are pretty much "wore/broke in" since each one is put on dyno and HP/TQ numbers are checked to be within a certain range. I would still drain oil at 1000 miles along with the drivetrain lube.

What to really keep in mind is differential oil temps. If you have a thermal gun (I keep one inside my cab), check the temperature of the "pumpkin" to ensure the axle never gets into dangerous ranges. Please don't take my word for it. Read from the professionals that do this on a daily basis.

    https://www.revolutiongear.com/ring_and_pinion_break_procedure

https://www.houstonrebuiltaxles.com...the axle is installed, for the first 100 miles.

Do people jump into their trucks and drive hours on end and never have a problem? All the time. Some trucks just get better fuel economy than others and I do believe this is due to running better oils/lube and break-ins.

You all should have seen the break in requirements for my GMC 3500HD. It was ridiculous.

Question is does the Toyota care maintenance plan cover that oil change outside their recommended mileage? I’m planning to do it either way. Just curious.

I had to drive 5.5 hours back from when I picked up my Tundra. Half of the drive was mountainous and I made sure I didnt use cruise control and varied speed. I stopped twice, for bathroom break and redbull refill. I tried to follow the break in procedures as best I could. But to conform to all of it only works in a perfect scenario when your local dealer sells you the vehicle for a decent price, not the highway robbery being done at the majority of dealerships for new Tundra Hybrids making many new owners have to travel long distances to buy at MSRP.

When I arrived at dealer for 1k break-in oil change, my dealer asked me if I want to use my 10k service (Toyota includes 10k and 20k service for free, these are just oil changes). So yes, you can ask them to use your 10k free service if you want them to change oil at 1k for you.

As far as for the toyota Pre paid maintenance plan, after you use up your two free oil changes, I don't know. I assume that they'll go by 10k miles or once a year schedule

It's not about money, I'm just not interested in what the oil analysis will tell me.

I've done a couple of them on my ram truck, watched many other oil analysis and deep discussions on what it means, then my camshaft and lifters still broke on my ram at 120k miles.

On a new truck, they'll tell you have a lot of metal in your oil because it's a first oil change and show you some numbers... There won't be any use from this oil analysis.

If I cared, I'd do oil analysis after couple of oil changes at 10k miles to confirm that all is good and there's low metal content now...

Your oil analysis ain’t gonna change nothing. If you go and show it to Toyota they are going to tell you to wait for it to fail anyway. To each their own I guess.
