I use a USB thumb drive for music. I use the USB port to the right of the environmental controls. About 1/3 of the time, I get a message saying that I have an unresponsive USB device, and the thumb drive no longer shows up on my list of sources for audio. I have to unplug the drive and stick it back in. This is annoying.

I've reformatted the drive for a 32gb partition (because the head units of yesteryear would die if you used a thumb drive larger than 32gb) using fat32, no to avail - it apparently makes no difference if it's 32gb and fat32 or 128gb and ex-fat.

Anyone experience similar issues? Anyone have a fix? The other USB drive doesn't pick up information, I think it's just for charging. I haven't tried the USB-C port yet, though.

ETA: I used this thumb drive without fail in my '19 4R. I never had a single issue. I do not think it's the thumb drive itself.

Could the drive be going bad? Sometimes the connector wears out.

Thanks for chiming in. I've already done what was covered in the thread regarding filing format.

The drive shouldn't be wearing out - it stayed plugged in my '19 4Runner for three and a half years, and worked flawlessly that whole time. I only removed it to bring it over to the Tundra.
