Yup, I agree. I just spent so much of my life buying vehicles at the ~$3K price point and running them for years into the ground. The Tundra was the first vehicle I have owned that cost more than my bicycle. lol

$20k for that truck might seem high until you consider the price of new ones. Seeing how many issues(minor and big) the new Tundras have, it actually seems crazier to me to buy a new one. Imagine paying $60k for a new Tundra and having the mirror fall off or having the seat trim break. Those are just a few of the examples people have shared in the Turd Gen section.

Still couldn’t fathom spending that much on a 21 year old not full size truck.
Would rather have something newer in lesser shape that’s closer to its actual value. Basically the same reason why I can never bring myself to buy an old Bronco. People think they are pure gold and I won’t pay

Good points.I wouldn't pay that much either because I could find a nicer 1st gen for less. Low mileage on these trucks means nothing. I'm just saying newer trucks are a lot more, and I'm convinced the quality is worse.

    @Mr.bee has your progress in-crease-d?

I’d pay 20 for a RC but AC in that condition isn’t so rare. And those seats just aren’t great for people. Could be a fun setup for audio though with a seat delete.

Before I put this in the pay it forward thread for all the 2, 2.5 and Kaitlin turd genners I figured I’d give you guys first snags.
Bought these Nilight ditch lights a while ago and not sure why cause I really don’t wanna put them on my truck! New unused with a wiring harness. Haha

The H9 bulbs are new but I opened one just to realize the minivan needed different ones since my intel was wrong.

So what is the reliable equivalent from say the last 5 years? Is there such a thing? Im so frugal with most things that $60k for a vehicle just sounds bat shit crazy. I could do so much with that kind of $$

Lots of people don't love 3rd gen Tacomas, notably @empty_lord but I don't really have any major complaints about my 2016. It's the most family friendly vehicle I own, available in MT still, and pricey but not insane/outrageous in the OffRoad trim.

2022+ Tundras are beyond my price appetite, though I wasn't able to stomach 42k for a new 3rd gen in 2020 so I doubt I could handle buying a new one today. Still, plenty of them out there, especially 2016-2019 range where people have moved on to something with newer tech.

Tacomas are just useless for towing, though, and with the 5' bed it's nearly useless for hauling too. So not much of a real truck.

But, as far as double cabs go, at least MT, it's my first pick. A crew cab 2016-2021 Tundra could be fun too, I wouldn't mind one of those at some point.

Posted this in the 2.5 forum and didn’t get many bites. Changed the rear diff fluid in the ‘19 and found some weird metal discs stuck to the magnet drain plug. Any ideas??

Nothing concerning. Looks like it’s just shit from the manufacturing process of the housing. Kinda normal on the first fluid change

I remember another 2.5 gen member posted something he found on his magnet that looked way worse than that and the consensus was that it was fine.

My first differential change (since new) looked like grayish gear oil. All subsequent changes looked fine. I kind of wonder what they put in there for a non-lsd rear end.

a crew cab 3rd gen (or any gen for that matter) still has the little baby 5 ft bed tho right? All other makers put out crew cabs with long beds or at least standard size. Where you at Toyota?

I just picked up a $300 05 Avalon too. Gotta do some stuff to it then sell. The 07 taco is next, then sell, then the 2002… to sell. I’m going to offload those.

so I’ll have the 66 Mercedes, 93 mr2, 95,98,01 and other 01 taco, tundra, 06 Avalon and 09 corolla left.

So yes I’ll have 9 lol

I've always thought i needed more wheels. I havent figured out what these were sourced from, they dont really look like sprinter/pro master center caps. Zooming in, i might see a MB logo.

With two exceptions I think @empty_lord is a man who won't turn down a solid offer. Intervention in this case is folks making offers on specific vehicles with expiration dates on the offer. Of course, then he'd be vehicle poor & cash rich & we know what follows that. :spending:

I would buy one of the Tacos for my bro in law’s farm. I especially like the ‘05. Honestly would prefer a custom flatbed. Dan likes OEM though. I’m definitely keeping an eye out and in the meantime I’ll try to get the Tundra up to task for towing. Probably cheaper to just ship it though.
