    Hi All,

I got a ticket on the highway heading to the river. I have not gotten a ticket in the past 10 years! I'm only 30. :)

But anyways the cop gave me a ticket for going 70 in a 65! But he said i was going 75.

Here the twist, the speed limit was 75mph! He assured me it was 65mph. I was for sure it was 75mph. I read all the speed limit signs!! And my truck navigation shows the speed limit as 75mph! I even showed the cop that! He said don't ever trust your technology stuff. Which is true but the navigation speed limit is pretty accurate from my experience. So I went back and checked the speed limit of where I got pulled over and it was 75mph!! He was going in the opposite direction and busted a U over a dirt road to pull me over.

What should I do? I know I'm right and he is wrong. I'm pissed!

Sounds like BS indeed! If it's not too far, I'd challenge it. The ticket should state exactly where u were ticketed and speed. Confirm speed limit sign, picture, and u should be good. If farther away, there are prob traffic lawyers could fight it for you.

That's what I'm saying. I respect cops, all of them. I'm going to also file a complaint.

I respect cops but I know some cops are just dicks and get off on power trips.

I don't want to take the drive. That's 3 hours back and forth.

Has anyone used a ticket doctor or whatever you call it? Time is money.

I would hold off on the complaint just yet...

The location he clocked you may be different from where you pulled over. Is the speed limit 75 in both locations?

Does the location on the citation reflect the location where you were clocked/stopped accurately?

If that is the case, he may have made a mistake, everyone is human gents.

If you are 100% sure the posted speed limit is 75 and the location noted on the citation is in the 75MPH zone, you can take pictures and video of the sign and the location noted on the citation. Plead not guilty, speak to him prior to and explain you think it may be a mistake and see what he says. He may withdraw it or you can take a hearing and let the judge decide.

I respect police as well, but there is a difference between respect and blind, unquestioning obedience. If you're right and can prove it, challenge it.

Even good cops are wrong sometimes. Doesn't mean he's a jerk, just mistaken.

I drove back 5 miles and came back the same direction. Speed limit posted is 75mph in both direction. I drove an extra 1/2 mile before he pulled me over. Way within the 5 miles speed limit post area.

    He was indeed a jerk.

Contest the citation..pictures, video etc may help. The Officer is human and mistakes do get made.

Take a pic of the signs if you could. Then on the back of the ticket you can write to them. "Not guilty, by written declaration" something like that. The cop needs to dispute it in most cases they do not. Send the pic as well.

I would have asked to take a ride in his cruiser. Most officers are very reasonable and he could have seen the mistake. A plus side they have a lot of cool switches, unless you're in the back..and then it's not as cool.

Personally, I couldn't be an officer...ever. The stuff I would try to pull off would be nothing short of humorous. Meow.

I actually enjoy messing around with officers, whether it be online or in person. Hell, just yesterday I was messing around with a local police officer.

This is one of her co-pilot for the day.

Check for your state. and see if they offer the ability to challenge it over the mail...sometimes is just a form, copy of the citation and supporting evidence.. Check the mile mark listed on the ticket.. Sometimes speed could go from 75 to 60 mph for a very short distance.. You need to film from the last speed sign before the mile mark to the first sign passed it.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I politely told the officer, that if I was going 75 in a 65 than I was obviously speeding and deserve the ticket but I was going at the posted speed limit.

I don't mind paying for my mistake but this is not my mistake. Fight for what's right!

This is what traffic court is for..gather your evidence..present it and let the judge decide..Keep in mind if he lasered you from a distance then the time it takes to catch up and initiate the traffic stop could be far away from where he initially spotted the violation so check your citation for the location of the infraction and gather your evidence from that point. Good luck.

It should say on the ticket how he clocked you..if he did it from the opposite bound that is not 100% reliable and most judges know that..

You can go to the court date ans talk to the judge.. plead not guilty.. they'll have to have another court date and summon the cop.. he'll know exactly what it's about and the chances are he won't show up tot the date.. then you'll have it dismissed if he doesn't show up.. you can also show proof of the sign .. you'd have pretty good odds

Call it what it is.. If the guy was a dick then he's a tool of a cop. It's more of a hassle for you, but you should contest it and file a complaint. Around here we have our fare share of cops on a power trip. Of course there's many more good ones, but the ego maniacs need to get called out. Sorry it happened to you, but you definitely should contest it.
