Hi, my factory 2014 tundra head unit is broken and so I’d like to take the opportunity to upgrade it. I know nothing about car audio, so I’m looking for some guidance. My tundra is a little beat up cosmetically, so I’m not looking to spend $1500 for top of the line. I’m really just looking for a decent quality unit with wireless CarPlay, and possibly phone mirroring (if that’s even an option). The bigger the screen the better. Any help pointing me in the right direction is appreciated.

I would also need something that’s very “plug and play” if the install is easy enough for a rookie like me to figure it out.

I would suggest Crutchfield, a good source on what you may want and need, along with connectors, usually free depending on purchase.

    https://www.crutchfield.com/S-fScYkBrKk1h/

Some guys here like 12volts. They sell pre-packaged kits.

Edit: check out youtube for useability on certain models to get a clearer picture on what you mighy like.

Dasaita's headunit is around $400 and is 100% plug and play and gives you better audio as well as being Android Auto / wireless Apple Car Play.

If you're one of us lucky ones with the fake amp under the front passenger seat, there's a $15 color-coded harness on Amazon that'll bypass that, the headunit is higher power than that thing.

    • Cheap
    • Decent quality
    • All the features
Pick two and go on your way.

But seriously, the Dasaita is probably the closest to what you're looking for. Quality is a bit of a question mark, but most people that have installed them have been happy.

This is exactly what I need. I assume this is compatible with the stock JBL system. (I just read that it requires extra harness)

And that actually has a nice dash bezel and looks factory. Not a fan of the units that stick out from the dash.

Medcity do you have the link to that harness? I do have an amp under the passenger seat.

Just to make sure, does that head unit on the Amazon link come with everything I need to install it on my 2014 Tundra? I don’t have JBL. Thanks again.

Is it the JBL? I know my SR5 had the non-JBL nonsense under the seat but the JBL mmaaayyyy be worth keeping. I don't know enough about that in particular to advise.

    Links! Non-JBL: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01BSEGCQW

JBL one might be available from AutoHarnessHouse.com (or it might not even require one)

And yes, as-is everything needed is in there! There's great walkthrough videos on YouTube on install. Takes about 30 minutes your first time being cautious. If you lived nearby I'd do it for you for a beer in about 10 minutes.

Just popped it in. Plug and play like y’all said. Just what I was wanting. Now I got the bug to start working on other upgrades/repairs.

So how long did it take you (asking as a fellow rookie)? And do the steering wheel controls still work?

It took me about 30 minutes going slow and being careful. It would probably take 15 if I had to do it again now that I know how to do it. The steering wheel controls (at least the volume - haven’t messed with the other ones yet) and backup camera both work.

anyone try installing one of these on a 2nd gen platinum (10-13)? Seems like this would be the kit with the extra CB-005-1 DYX004 harnesses I need since i have nav and jbl HU. anyone else think the same?

Anyway to make use of the OE microphone with this setup!? This is a perfect head-unit!

It'd be great if someone figures out how to do that. I hate having to have an external mic so I went the way of getting a 2020+ HU and amp to upgrade mine.

Depends on how they are installed. Many of us with the Pioneer 9 and 10 inch units modified the installation.

The primary issue is that the OE mic is amplified. There's a post where someone was able to get it working by supplying 5v to the mic, but it's a little sketchy to get working. I ended up replacing the OE mic with my Kenwood (and Pioneer before that) aftermarket mic using the OE location in the overhead console.

Did you clip out the OE mic to do so and use existing wiring? Or just route new all the way around up there? It IS kinda handy to be able to talk to my headunit, but I don't have the external mic wired up and the built-in one is pretty hilariously bad.

So this is just a plug and play head unit? I have a Trd off road 2015 do I need anything extra? The mic for Bluetooth phone calls all works with oem? Or does it come with a new mic?

I ran the aftermarket mic's cabling along the passenger A-pillar and above the headliner, leaving the OE wiring in place. I did unplug the OE mic at the end of it and remove that part, but left the wire and fitting up there.

I'll have to do this. I've been thinking about putting in the grab handle on the driver's side A-pillar anyway so two birds etc. Thanks!
