Ok fanboys. I like Teslas but honestly... Since I need my vehicles to drive more than a quarter mile, let me know when you place well at Le Mans. I don't care how well they go off the line.

I'm just saying, I know it's super fast off the line. There's about 30 billion posts here about how it's super awesome in a drag race. But that's like when Top Gear drove the Bugatti on its top speed run. There was all of one track you could do it in the world and they only had about 10 minutes of drive time before the gas (and it was a big tank) was dry. This is the same. You can't run even an F1-length race in a Tesla. I would imagine the batteries are way better than they used to be, but they'll still drain too fast when going at max.

I do like em. If I had a crap pile of cash, the Plaid looks fun as hell. As a second car for the wife, any Tesla would be good. But upteen posts about it drag racing... yawn. It's getting a little groupie-level of fanboy. Just my thoughts, feel free to ignore me. I'm not hostile about it.

I don't think any EV manufacture has boasted about running an F1-length race; as you said - batteries would drop rather quickly...I'm sure one day it'll get there. Hell, Delta is looking at creating an EV plane!

I shiver at the though of an airline with an EV plane... They can't even sort out current air travel. At least you're not doing Canadian airlines down there. Flying out of Pearson (Toronto) is like hopping into the dawn of the dead.

but teslas are not race cars

they are consumer level vehicles that outperform near every road car and near every hot rod

comparing any car to F1 is a bit disingenuous

and we as normal people scoot from red light to red light

I reckon 300 miles is a fair range for a commuter car

we think similarly. I dread the performance of the Tesla. But here we are

I can't see me buying any Trucky EV from Ford, GM or Fiat (Ram).

really - I 'm not sure a trucky EV would be viable. All of the truck ev's out now can't do truck things.

now...If you could convert the Tesla Semi to a nice super duty pickup.

kinda like the 2023 Excursion rumors....grown ass men want large capable vehicles.

you know & I know...a 2023 Excursion would out sell just about EVERY SUV. what stop them from selling in US? not free market forces.

    yes, correct guess...the EPA.

Whatever this forum told me to do
    make that 3 buyers.

they would easily make model ranging from ~65k to ~$110k. imagine the Excursion Raptor Rx. LOL

the Excursion was the highest margin vehicle Ford built....till EPA shut that sh1t down.

now that the EPA has been neutered by SCOTUS, let's get ready to RUMMMBLE.

I’d be mildly tempted to buy a Tesla semi for personal use. And never hitch it up. Without a trailer it would get pretty insane range. And a center seating position would rule. It would be fantastic for long road trips.

    just not family friendly.

Looks like an el camino. lol. A truck shouldn't look like it had its roof chopped. The Rivian looks way better (yes, I know the front end is polarizing but I like it.)

just reading an article that Rivian might not last too long (it was a very biased tone) - it was a review of their financial performance. Apparently an 80% drop in stock price because they can't meet demand and their market cap is stupid high.

As for a Rivian, I'm one of those "the vehicle face" is a big determining factor in purchasing. Then again I do have a 2.5 gen...sooo....

They're backed by Amazon and ford. Their market cap has no relation to reality (as per most tech stocks.) This one has hard orders and shared r&d. I wouldn't take some journalist's word on anything - on any subject.

oh agree 100% (hence the bias author comment) - stock performance is more the issue I see with no confidence in the company (regardless of how much money anyone pumps into them - the high market cap and poor stock performance just screams red flags as a sinking ship) - if anything the pumpers could just incorporate or sell them off and use the tech on their own. The more important point I took away from the "article" was just that with them being a niche automaker they look like they have missed a time to market window with the big 3 entering the arena now - greatly impacting their competitiveness in the market - putting them in a position to be overlooked or even be bought out and absorbed into one of the 3 (maybe in this case Ford) as the big 3 have the market share to push and offer established service centers and be able to meet production demands.

One thing I really like about the Rivian truck especially is the use of empty space and the focus on "weekend warrior" design (specifically designed to overland from the "showroom floor"). It's a cool truck - hopefully they get some traction and move forward.

    Borrowed:

“As of August 2022, the Model Y Performance has fake performance calipers in the rear. It gets the same brake calipers and pad size as the long range, but a plastic red performance cover making them appear to be a larger performance caliper. Rear rotor size is still a little thicker than the long range. Fortunately the M3P did not get that treatment, when I pulled my rear calipers, they were definitely the real deal and not plastic covers.
