Honestly most of what I see is people arguing about politics or some other petty bullshit. It's probably the most toxic social media platform. I have a few crazy aunts always posting political memes that are actually fake news at least half the time. I really need to deactivate my account but I enjoy the lower ball joint failure posts.

Grandma actively facebooks, and gets mad enough to call people. I bet shes showed me 100 pictures to shit talk.

my great aunt has copy/pasted the "i do not consent" posts at least a dozen times. And the "do this to block ads and hear from your friends". You can only tell em so many times. Then they block you for posting facts about the 'bible moon' posts.

none of em understand i dont have fb messanger, and continue to use that instead of text. I've got over 50 msg's i cant check, and its the same people i've told repeatedly.

Isn't that crazy though? I'm sure whatever it was that she said is something she'd never have the cajones to say in person, and that's the scary part to me.

Lucky dog, in my family, you can't separate the two. Strangely it's almost exclusively the family in TX, FL, and three specific family members in OK, one in LA. Everyone else is pretty level-headed.

It's pretty disappointing because I get to tap into the security teams doing social media analysis at work, and if my family knew how much the stuff they post/re-share was pure misinformation created from Russian and Iranian intelligence specifically, with the sole intent to cause social uproar and tear us apart, they'd die. (my wife has an account, and one specific uncle in SATX caused her to share often)

You've already got an account, just block 'em and move on, use it for what you like without the extra noise. You can't talk sense into them.

I've sent my people internal deep dives on misinformation campaigns they're sharing, and they really don't give a damn even knowing it's fake and planted from hostile nations, they just keep sharing it. They're so infatuated with the fact they're pissing people off, they're so in love with the attention and shock it gets, they've legitimately come to love trolling, it's become part of their being. They literally wear their politics on their sleeves, their entire personality has become their beliefs. They wear the stickers on their cars, t-shirts on their backs, the same way we used to wear band t-shirts a few decades back to advertise our cultural flavor. It's really sad, if not just pathetic.

This is why I'm overwhelmingly grateful political discussion is off-limits here. It's a truck forum. There is no political anything that's going to get solved here. No magical information someone can offer here that's going to flip someone's views. All it'll do is create rifts, by way of the same garbage sharing politically-driven misinformation on Facebook.

I'm curious how we managed to go from a disruptor like George Carlin being the type of comedic troll that's awesome and funny but also thoughtful, to say, a comedian like Andrew Dice Clay becoming just as famous. I think that's when the troll-shift happened, when we traded intelligent, but really sharp, pointed trolling for shock-factor, crass trolling. Anything to get a rise out of people.

When I was a kid, back in the 70s, and even in the 80s to a degree, I don't remember shock factor being such a problem.

EDIT: I feel like cable TV and reality TV followed that same trajectory in the last couple three or four decades, and ... here we are, today, living in the brunt of it. Shock factor is now our day-to-day life, versus factual, civil communication, intelligent criticism.

I think zukbook is far less intolerable if you ignore all posts. Only check messenger or DM someone specific to get their contact info. Then do whatever group / marketplace stuff you need. But ignore the “news” stream entirely. It’s all garbage.

I actually like Dice even though he is a terrible character (never bothered to look up how much of his act matches his personal life). Much like TJ miller and all rap music. The words are terrible but the voices are fantastic and the s is fun. Just gotta remember it’s make believe bs just like first player shooter video games.

Is it possible to turn messenger off completely on FB? Wife is already en route to CES, so I can't check hers out. She's got the account more b/c of IG (for biz reasons). but the one account works for both, I guess.

All rap music you've listened to, at least :D Some of it is based squarely in humor, just like Dice was. Like, if you listen to Geto Boys, for example, Houston's finest ever, you'd think they were just another 'violent rap group'.

The reality is, almost every song they wrote was a competition to see who could kill the most people in one track, in the most ludicrous ways ever, like:

I haven't figured out a way to get my fist out your forehead
What up? Get up. Sit up. Your ass'll get lit up
A knife in his neck made of polar bear spit-up
A nine, an Uzi it's my only utensil
Inside his chest they found 10,000 pencils

My friends and I would laugh uncontrollably listening, but BITD, conservatives in TX were losing their ever-loving minds over them. The mental picture of someone wielding a knife made out of polar bear vomit, or killing someone with 10,000 yellow No.2 Faber-Castells to the chest is ... Ludicrous. Hilariously ludicrous.

There's a lot of rap/hip hop that really isn't what you'll hear bumping out of donks and bubbles today or days of yore, isn't degrading to women, talking about selling drugs, etc. and doesn't even have the classic beats. It exists, you just gotta know where to look. Some of it is great.

And with Dice, it's not like I hate the guy. Rodney Dangerfield was almost as crass. Here's my beef: Dangerfield was hilarious via attacking himself, self-deprecating. Dice was hilarious via attacking anyone and everyone else. I think what Dangerfield did took way more effort, and typically wasn't at the expense of others.

    Heater element time!

Hopefully it's not as much of a PITA to get to the back of the drum on yours as it was on mine. I have a Maytag, you can't just pop the rear panel off. You pop the top panel and lift the damn drum out.

Oh, you got this. Just keep dibs on bolts. Repair Clinic and similar websites often have videos showing the process to follow for same or similar models.

I thought the same when I did the heating element in my dryer. Haven't had to do the washer yet, but I've had to dully disassemble the washing machine twice now, once to clean out the damn drum after an accident, and another time to do the water pump. It's a top-load. I had to replace the boot on our side load Whirlpool washer once, and the next time it was all mildewed up, we swapped it for the top-load Maytag.

Stupid part is, the ancient Kenmore units I had prior to go with the Whirlpool front-loads lasted at least 15 years before I bought them used, then another 15 years after. Since getting rid of those, in the last 17 years, I went through the Whirlpools, and now I'm on the Maytags. The Maytag doesn't seem to be any more reliable. They're definitely not easier to work on. Sad the Kenmore units lasted 30yrs, you're lucky to get 10yrs out of anything these days.

Cardboard boltholding patterns. Get all the screws in the right holes at the right time. Change colors each step.

if you 'fail' turn it into a firepit. Took one of mine to hidden falls, since we didnt need it for light, we could keep it running even through the rain, but i had to refill it a couple times overnight. We were able to set it up under a tree, and keep embers the whole time. Coulda filled it and still have wood left over.

Looks like you were right. The first YouTube video I watched said I needed to remove the drum entirely. Now I just need these wires to break free.

Facekook definitely has it's ups and downs. There are alot of idiots runnin their mouths about shit they shouldn't be, and people even putting out their own dirty laundry. On the flip side, I've found it useful for real life stuff. I've been able to find and catch up with friends and relatives that I pobably never would've seen or talked to again otherwise. Also useful for performing bands, social or sports groups of any kind and new smaller businesses to get their name out there and become established. I know its a hub for collecting personal data as well, just be selective about what you share, and who you associate with. That's just my take on it.

Needlenose pliers are your friend, rock back and forth, and you're golden.

You've seen what I've got on my truck window
I'm wearing a beer shirt. I love to drink a good beer it almost as much as I like to listen to music, I just happen to listen to more music. But yeah, I'm in the same camp as you.

I've found people, but never bothered to reach out b/c 'no account'. But yeah, I think I'd mentioned elsewhere, it's cool 7 Seconds and others will livestream shows on there. It's one of the things I do miss out on. If I ever did setup an account, I probably wouldn't install their app on my phone, just use the website. Incognito mode. Over VPN. I'm assuming it'll stick around for a while, whereas Twitter looks like it's taking a rapidfire dump.

HELL YEAH! Glad to see you're making progress. Happy snoozing tonight. Now all that's left is the follow-up visits. I assume they have you booked out once every 2-3 weeks for follow-ups to dilate you, check out turbinates, debride, etc.?

@shifty` I may ask for advice on what to do with the '16 steel rear bumper I have (used, one scrape) as far as painting. Hoping to bolt it on in 1.5 weeks so if I'm going to drop it off for PC I should probably do that soon.

If it's PC, you should be able to rub it away with some MEK, if you have any. I think MEK is probably illegal in CA, so guessing you don't have any eh? It's nasty shit.

It's technically just a coating, it doesn't bond worth a damn to metal, so if you can get under it, you should be able to flake it away.

I have a question. If my ignition key is old and worn down and I have a new one made at a locksmith, won't it be a mirror image of the worn out key?

Is the dealership able to make one that is somehow closer to the original based off my VIN?

I already had few new ones made at a locksmith a few years ago and I'm wondering if I should have done to the dealer.

Correct. Way cheaper at locksmith but if it’s worn down that much you can always have the dealer do it with your vin and be at ease that it will work in all locks.
