    Woke up to several fires I had to put out at work, so getting online a bit late today. Why do people not understand that a deadline is a deadline, and it screws up a TON of other stuff if you don't meet it?!?!? I even let the engineering firm set this deadline, and they STILL missed it! :mad:

    In this case we have about a dozen tie ins that must be made in our shut down in 7 1/2 weeks. Missing this deadline puts more pressure on my procurement efforts to get all the valves onsite, selection of the piping contractor, and reduces time for the mechanical contractor to do any pre-shutdown work they can do. This is my A-Team pipe designer so it really surprised me when he told me he would miss the deadline. I was just caught off guard because I got him the PO right after Thanksgiving and there should have been plenty of time to get it done. He blames the holidays but he knew about the holidays when he promised a delivery date back then.

    The valves we need are pretty common in refineries and chemical plants and some local parts houses keep them on the shelf. Worst case for me is a 10" valve that is two weeks out. These are all manual valves for water and air service. Actuated valves, or special materials would be more of a problem.

    I guess I don't hear about ordering manual valves and other standard things all that often. Better hope you don't need any control or safety valves in a hurry, though. :facepalm:
