Why isn’t this padded leather?

Very confused as to why this part of the center console isn’t padded leather like the rest of it.

In my 1794 the flip up lid is fake wood and the armrest on the center armrests are faux leather just like the window sills. My guess is that your Platinum Tundra is the same.

local upholstery shop can pad and wrap that in leather for a couple hundred bucks, so easy to address if you choose to.

Maybe something a little more elegant.

It’s a veneer of luxury, not actually using expensive materials and cutting corners everywhere. And, it’s not just a Toyota thing. Leather seats from most manufacturers has been low quality and only where your back and butt touch, everything else I’d vynil.

Why isn't it solid gold or diamond studded? I would imagine cost is a factor and that, somewhere in the analysis, there is an accountant with a sharp pencil.

I test drove a tundra, thinking of getting one soon. that center console arm rest might be my biggest complaint. its very narrow, so if my elbow comes off of it even a little bit its resting on the hard plastic, i found it pretty noticeable just on my 5 minute test drive. came to the forum seeing if someone else had a solution?

Tuf skinz make anything for that? I know they do some pieces to cover up the awful high gloss cheap looking plastic around the shifter

It looks like lower trims just have a tray there. They have an insert for the tray but I don’t think they have one for the flip up cover.

The center armrest is one of my complaints with my 23 Limited. What is the purpose of the sliding trays on top if, when I have to open the lid to get something out of the compartment, I have to remove everything in the trays? It's just another one of those things that make you want to slap the designer and say, "think about what you are going to be doing with it first"!! Toyota made a lot of mistakes with designing this truck like they rushed the job to "just get something out there".

I agree the center armrest isn’t the greatest, but not a deal breaker

I believe they want you to slide the tray back to capture all the stuff you have in it when you open the whole console.

Any thing taller than 1/4” will prevent it from sliding back.

yup, the armrest kinda blows. If someone makes a high quality aftermarket armrest with padding and a flat surface that's all I'd want. That portal that slides back is gimmicky.

Although it may have looked better to have the flip up part of the center console with padded leather, I really like the interior of the Platinum.
