Yeah some of those guys get crazy passionate about the little details.

I figure that when Toyota makes a port injected engine that you can run 0W-20 all the way up to 20W-50 if you drive across the border into Mexico, it's gotta be hard to fuck things up as long as you change the oil regularly.

Ever catch background conversations about car related stuff from the general public? The other day I heard some woman say she runs her car until the oil light comes on and then gets it changed. Said it was something like a 10 year old Chevy with 150k+ miles. I think we're all gonna be just fine.

I fully admit to being the OCD one in my circle of friends and family when it comes to vehicle care and maintenance. I have 15 years+ of Blackstone reports from many vehicles that show I can run my oil up to 10k. Yet I rarely go past 5k; it freaks me out. So I stay out of conversations with people that wait for the idiot light.

And this concludes the short but scary itch for a S/C. Guess it waits until I retire near a dealer…C38AA814-BE0B-434F-8AB1-EF365AC85CC2.jpg

would be nice to only buy one oil for all our rigs.
Wonder how the wife’s Forester would do with the same…

Oh hell no… I don’t have the skills for that. And from what little research I’ve done it seems like being able to “tune the tune” might be needed….

I did the same every time. I dont care if it was synthetic. Treat your engine good, and it'll treat you good.

I don't have any kind of scientific analysis but to my untrained eye, the oil in my wife's Corolla looks really black after about 3000 miles so I've decided to start changing it every 2500 or so. We don't put a lot of miles on the car and it mostly gets short city or freeway trips.

Oil in my truck gets changed every 12 months, which is about every 5000 miles with the amount I drive it

Thing is, the oil will darken way before it's shot. Have you thought about submitting a sample to blackstone?

I briefly considered it but doesn't seem worth trying to ship it over the border.

I think for that generation of Corolla, Toyota recommends 3500 mile oil changes for severe service so maybe I'll stick with that. 5000 mile intervals for regular service.

Oh, so it's not a 10K OCI anyway. Probably good on the 3. Won't hurt it, that's for sure.

The color of the oil isn’t a good indicator unless there is water or coolant present. Oil is actually engineered to absorb grime and that will make it dark. All part of the plan.

3500-5000 mile OCIs it is. I'll just have to tell my dad to shut his eyes if he sees the oil while I'm borrowing the pit in his garage to change it.

    Maintaining 3 vehicles is stressful.

    Nice try..:p

    Having only ONE vehicle...

I have NEVER had that luxury , I've been wrenching on motorized "things" for a very long time and having only one would scare me

Now , if you want to talk wives , than YES... one is the optimum number :hattip::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
