Anyone have a list of 'commamds' for the Fortin Evo One? All I've seen are install and programming instructions. Press the lock fob 3x to start...3x to stop. Unlock to unlock doors while running. Is there anything else?

added power mirrors, auto fold mirror, 2019 TRD head and FOG lights, FORTIN remote start, retrax tonneau cover, 18" fuel BFGK02, TRD sway bar, TRD intake
its pretty simple.... that's all it does...

I removed the factory remote start
my 2016 key start.... TRUCK TURNS OFF WHEN DOOR OPEN..

sold it and replaced it with FORTIN. simple

but it requires dash access.... radio, glove box and some interior trim... but its all plug and play

You would think Toyota would allow you to open the door with the key phob. But it’s not working for me either.

I understand that Toyota may shut off the engine after remote start when you open the door to prevent theft. But why will they not allow you to lock the doors while it is running to prevent the same thing? Both features are turrble.

Strange, my 2020 SR5 allows me to open the door and put my key in and turn it to "on" (but not far enough to engage the starter) and from there I can drive without the engine ever shutting off. It's only when I put my foot on any of the pedals that my truck shuts off.

That is using the factory fob too..

All the Toyotas we have either factory or aftermarket will turn off when the door is opened. It's really not much hassle to reach over and press the start button. It's not as if all the heat escapes when the door is opened.

Is it inconvenient, sure, but barely.

My thing, and maybe its slightly OCD, is that I don't like starting the engine again and putting more stress on components if I don't need to.

At least the Tundra doesn't shut itself off and restart every time you stop at a stop sign. Well, my 2016 doesnt.

When I bought my EVO ONE it was already programmed but there was a programming device available for someone who wanted to change something. I believe it is called 'flashlink', but I may not remember it correctly.

I can appreciate the security concern, but if this was the design intent, why would they allow a push-button started truck to drive away without the key fob being in range! What a security threat with zero use-case to justify! This is probably my biggest design beef with the whole truck.

Truck should have been designed to shutoff when brake pedal is pressed, before coming out of park, when the key is not within range. This would address theft of a truck that was started either remotely or push-button. Would also have been nice to allow the doors to lock (from the fob) with the truck running to protect against theft of contents. I'm not sure what Toyota's official explanation is for the curent design, but IMO this looks like poor design logic hiding behind some sort of myth or fabricated reason. This functionality is commonplace with aftermarket remote starters, so it is surely technical feasible.

It shuts off for those as well. From Toyota's official site.

    upload_2022-12-30_9-49-18.jpg

Notice that it looks like they are starting to allow remote connect starts and then driving on select 2023 models. It's the typical slow roll of Toyota. They don't implement new stuff until they think they have it working, and even then it's only select models until it's proven. Look how long it took for push button start and the smart handles to make it to the Tundra vs other Toyota models. This isn't a new pattern, and we just have to be patient. Especially when this is such a minimal issue.

I'm a big supporter of Toyota's conservative approach to design but gosh, this is pretty basic. Nice to see the design has evolved in the 2023s. It seems like a petty design issue in the gen 2.5s until you live in a cold climate and start your truck to warm up nearly 6 months of the year. Something to either live with or get an aftermarket starter. I'll probably do the later.

My Tundra didn't have it at all and we get plenty cold, so I'm stoked to have it in the Taco. I don't mind restarting it. I don't mind the low quality cameras either, because I never had better ones in anything I've owned so I'm just tickled to have it at all.

Cause signals coming from your keyfob RFID transmitter chip can be easily replicated. There are systems out there that can trace and copy signature or unique RFID signals similar to like how people get a hold on credit card info until the chipped cards came out somewhat. If they were to catch 2 of your signals from a your fob, it's really easy just hop in and drive off. Whereas if the vehicle is designed to shut off, It now requires a additional starting signal from the fob that communicates to your anti-theft system built in. The transmitter is designed to do 4 signals like normally it is supposed to. You need the following signals to go through just like any other person driving. Locked mode, accessory mode, On mode and Start/Ignition mode.

If you had a H-key to start it's about the same thing without the vehicle turning off due to the ignition needing to be set to on.

If this doesn't make any sense just be glad you don't have a manual where it gets trickier or impossible. Same goes for Diesel.

My wife always wanted a remote start and I installed the Toyota OEM on her 2017 Camry. She hates that she has to push the button again after she opens the door. Really? It's a button! You push it and boom, the car starts. She won't use it. I have been married to her for 40 years and I still don't understand her.
