What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I'd probably tape off all the sealing surfaces, and then paint the tank with something heat or gas resistant. That's just me though

FYI, all of the aftermarket tanks list their capacity as 18.5 gallons. I had a very heated argument with Dorman support about this. They swear that theirs is an exact replica of the Toyota part (it is), and the Toyota print cite the capacity as 18.5 gals. Well my owners manual cites the capacity as 26.4 (it is). After I installed the new tank, I poured in ~ 5 gallons from a can, then added ~ 21.7 gallons at the pump. Let's see...5 + 21.7 = Yep, 18.5!

Also, BTW, if you drop your tank you may as well change the fuel pump. Denso fuel pumps are still on national back order, but I know where you can get one

Consider new OEM tank straps as well...it will be obvious once you drop the tank.

 

I am a little concerned about the straps. The dealer replaced them but broke the existing bolts and tapped larger holes for new bolts. I’m not feeling confident these new bolts won’t snap as well. I can get the bed bolts off, however, I don’t have an engine hoist to lift it or 3 other people WILLING to help.

 

The tank comes out from the bottom. It's not all that difficult...but then again I did mine in August

Sometimes I envy you guys that live in the country. I look at the sky and this is all i see for miles…

 

My city also participates in a low light pollution ordinance or whatever, so our sky’s are nice and clear at night too

 

Arizona is THE place to be for astronomers supposedly according to my college ex-roommate. I still think he would’ve had a more interesting career as an astrologer than an astronomer but whatever.

I remember picking up cigarette butts from under the liner before taking this picture. I used to stuff them into the liner to keep them hidden from Pops, and for easy disposal.


The cigarette butts in the ashtray were mine. Mostly menthols. I didn't realize they were still in the shot before snapping the pic.


My vape in the cupholder was a feeble attempt to replace one habit with another under the guise of it being "better."



Dad recorded a video of my little brother, and I using the momba taking bed bolts off. He caught me mid-cig, and I just rolled with it. Cat was out of the bag. Core memory for me doing that with lil bro. As odd as he may be. I'll never forget that.

 

Ya know, it's funny... I've said that that old silver truck saved me time, and time again. I think I briefly talked to @FirstGenVol about it on my first trip to K-ville when he was still in the lil white house. That truck will save me again. Nostalgia is a helluva thing.

I wish we did but I don’t know of any myself. Besides, I’m trying to keep the cost low of around $300 since I don’t want to invest a lot into my truck if I don’t have to do so. I believe shipping would be around $500 as some of these eBay sites list.

Well, Homelink mirror arrived from SGW (reference post here).

I now have Homelink v5 in my truck with no wiring required. I had to make the trek to Home Depot for some fasteners this AM, and here's a shot of it installed from the HD parking lot. I don't like the shape of it necessarily. It's super freaking clear, I just don't feel like it has the same coverage as the other auto-dim Gentex mirror I had installed. Fits on the OEM tombstone, which was standard variety in my '06, not the Donnelly tombstone some other members have in their earlier-model trucks. Install was literally just loosen pinch bolt on old mirror, slide old off, slide new on, tighten pinch bolt and now I'm opening my garage door from the mirror. I don't love the buttons either, they're not raised enough, I prefer the ones in our 2020 Highlander much better.

My Eighty % Offroad weld-on sliders arrived today! 107 lbs. total. Really nicely constructed. Going to have them welded on next week. For those that have done this already, you generally get them painted after welding correct?

 

Oh, and unfortunately, the damn part number was ripped off the box. It still had the instructions inside, but the instructions have their own part number.

I'm pretty sure the part number is PT374-00210 in case anyone else wanted to do this upgrade. Running price for this mirror from the Toyota Parts site is around $110. Edit: That's the correct part number and the upgrade/install was easy as pie. So nice to open the garage from the mirror!

Yeah try to weld everything possible then get painted or powder coated, then do the final welding/bolting to the frame

Adventures in Snugtop re-sealing. If it leaks after this, I'm out of options!

 

Took a closer look at the hoses I received and while the 8 mm ID with a 13-13.5 mm OD matches the original hose, the 10 mm which has a 16 mm OD won’t fit in the clips circled below since the 10 mm ID hose Toyota makes is 12 mm OD. About 4 mm off.




Does anyone know where I can find similar hose clips to Toyota’s?

I’ll have to find a larger one for the 10 mm hose.

 

I had the same issues with my hoses. I test smooshed them into the clips, and then blew through them without connecting th3m to make sure they weren't too obstructed. Mine weren't. YMMV

 

At 4 mm off, mine’s a tad too big. I may just have to zip tie them together if nothing else exists.

 

Used my truck to go to UPS and to buy another "scoop" of firewood (kiln dried). The irony of buying firewood when I have a half full woodshed does not escape me. Hah.

 

Other option is to line-x the sliders. What do you think?

Ended up bringing home the 06 Tundra yesterday. Pretty stoked to have a work truck, it came with a color matched Leer cap which is cool. Got it somewhat cleaned up with the odd 65° day, pulled the topper and put it on the old truck for now. Will see what else I have to do on this one.

 

Got these bad boys in the mail yesterday. Finally something that I don’t have to add to the to do pile in the garage!
