I really tried to like the look of the Cybertruck and even left a deposit years ago but as more videos come out - especially with the side mirrors and that ridiculous wiper …

ITS REALLY UGLY BEYOND BELIEF !!

Second , just too pretentious and embarrassing to drive to job sites.

Three , technology is still not there especially where I live with temperatures in winter that would drain the battery by 40%.

Third , rumours that the price will be over $120 000.00 at minimum.

Four - the interior is ugly and plain

Five the yolk ( or whatever they call ) that silly steering wheel.

Six , infrastructure for charging is far and few plus there is a significant cost to charge especially when you add my time just standing there.

Seven - no matter what they say , the battery is Not replaceable. Anyone saying otherwise is lying .

Why the Tundra ? List is too long .
    Love this truck !

    Nice looking truck op!

I wouldn't buy the cyber truck either, although a very good friend of mine did get the "Rivian". Talk about a unique experience, recieved his truck , but didn't get his charger for three months after. :eek2:

Truck, if we really want to call it a truck for which it isn't. Pretty useless if plan on carrying a load or towing with it.

Our group of friends laugh when discussing it, because he can't drive his ev truck down to his beach home, a three hour commute. He needs to stop and get a charge, so they take their Landcruiser instead.

When asked why in the hell he bought it, the simple answer was to promote his company, it garners a lot of attention.

Using it for work tasks such as hauling or towing? Forget about it, even living in a large metropolitan area, the infrastructure is not there yet.

    Congrats

To me it’s like comparing apples and well leprechauns

Your basing everything on one on web reviews and photos of one - and your in hand experience on the others. It’s a very dangerous thing in general relying on reviews and photos to make a major decision.

Ever shop for a home ? You see an amazing looking property that’s staged well and looks like your dream home in the photos. You read the description and the neighborhood reviews - you fall in love and schedule a showing (or in extreme markets make an offer site unseen) - only to find the place sits next door to a meth house or something.

In general - we tend to over hype expectations of new things and want to believe they will work out and rarely do they live up to our over hyped expectations. Worse - when we have been dragged along too long - we tend to assume something will be a flop and justify our decision to abandon it for the available.

Im not a Tesla fan in general - and having been an Apple fanboy during the Spindler and Gil Amelio years - I think I know a thing or 2 about a company hyping a “game changing” product only to delay its delivery and inevitably produce either a great product that just never gains traction before dropping it - or just delivering such a complete and absolute turd that it forces the company to have to abandon much more promising product to reduce risk of complete bankruptcy.

To me - this is where Tesla sits today - they have had a nice win streak - but the product pipeline is getting challenging. They no longer can just sell a few hundred thousand of anything and call it a win. Worse - the challenge of bloated product is catching up fast. They need to again reinvent themselves but now they are a huge company and not a start up. The cyber truck may well be an amazing truck and may be the best vehicle of 2024 - but they might turn into Delorean too if they are not careful.

The only positive - Tesla has financial backing - something Rivian is lacking. 3 more tough quarters snd Tesla is a $30 stock and is picking through the pieces of others fallen empires for bargains - Rivian will be the answer to a trivia question that no one knows unless they were a shareholder early on post SPAC. If this day comes - then I’ll be a buyer of Tesla stock and then eventually maybe one of their vehicles.

Tesla and the other electric carmakers are facing a huge problem: lack of demand.

Just because the greenies and the government are pushing electric cars down our throats, does not mean people are lining up to buy them!

The consumer still makes the choice, because it's still his or her money. And 95% of automotive buyers are still buying ICE vehicles.

The automotive industry is bad about chasing trends: gaping front grills, paint colors, small turbocharged motors, electric cars....

Trends are just that: they come, and most go.

I think a viable electric car industry is still a decade or two out....

In my honest opinion electric vehicles are expanding in popularity because of government action that's making ICE engines more expensive to buy and run while incentivizing EV expansion. These are not free market decisions where everybody is flocking to what's most practical for them. Part of it is a lot of people view EV power as 'free' as opposed to gas which they have to swipe a credit card to pay for. And people who go for EVs as a primary vehicle are not in my opinion properly factoring in the risks of how unstable our grid could become in the next 5-10 years if we get more renewables shoved down our throats and keep the most abundant energy sources in the ground to please the greeniacs. I am not looking forward to what heating and powering my home will look like as a result of the direction of our energy politics and do not want it to affect my ability to travel freely too.

The government incentivizes the purchase, manufacture, and sale of EVs and has funded a rapid charging infrastructure expansion. That's made them a little more feasible for a wider audience. Government incentives drove the birth of the market. The charging stations came up on the government dime to address a concern that was making people hold off from buying the cars whose manufacture was incentivized by government. None of it is organic.

And range, charging time and other practicality concerns still keep them from being a good primary vehicle for heavy all around everyday use. When the politics change, some of the incentives and disincentives will change and that will cause purchasing decisions to change. Elsewhere on the board someone mentioned seeing heavy TESLA incentives, indicating prices are coming down because more manufacturers are jumping into that market and soaking up demand. Once you get an expanded market with a bunch of companies devoting significant capacity to EVs, if the govt incentive/disincentive structure changes in another election cycle or two it could now cause the bottom to drop out.

You will have a lot of companies with EVs gathering dust on lots that they have to pay people to buy. If they stop being profitable spending huge amounts of r&d money improving on the technology will stop being practical.

Lots of armchair economists in here, but I'll toss in my very real 2 cents as to why my folks have recovered their CyberTruck deposit: Elon Musk is a stupid person's idea of a smart person. As long as he's at the helm, you don't want to be on Twitter, flying SpaceX or driving Tesla. Layers of toxic mismanagement from the top down should absolutely dissuade you from doing business with a company.

Elon Musk has never had a billion $ in cash. Billionaire on paper. SpaceX is doing well. Tesla has some serious financial issues going on. Twitter is for Twits, and TikTok btw. Poor investment on Musk's part. Musk needs to re-focus his priorities.

The Government should stay out of shit. Politics suck. Especially feel good political decisions based on emotions. The worst. Let the free market rule. People will buy things that make sense, is truly practical, is truly green, is truly viable, is truly affordable, not subsidized, and not pie in the sky crapola.

Is this about government or the CT? Many are holding out on the $7500 off and free SC miles (10k worth) as they wait their CT. It’s unique, for sure. I want to drive it for the experience and to see what it can do.
Also, why did you post this in General Tundra Discussion? *moves to off topic*

I'd like to see the CT come out. Pretty kuul concept. Competition is always good. Tesla stocks will rebound quickly as soon as Musk turns over Twitter to someone that can run it for him. Musk never planned on running Twitter for long. He wanted to clean house. He has done that. Re-focus on the important stuff now. I see Tesla's all over here in CO. Lots. It's not a thing.

Musk buying Twitter is an example of someone with F.U. Money.

Tesla and Space-X are both absolutely amazing achievements. Started from scratch. Don’t have to like the guy, history will reflect what he is.

Watching him single-handedly disprove that wealth and influence are meritocracy bonuses earned through hard work or competency? Some of the genuinely most hilariously satisfying Internet I've witnessed since connecting in the 90's.

So in short, I've got a soft spot in my heart for all the clown makeup he's painted on his own face. And I have to admit I love how laughing at his antics really, genuinely gets to his internet simps, though this is a shrinking crowd the more he talks online.
