Our beloved 13 yr old Roxie the Yellow Lab was put to sleep at 09:00 this morning. I built a bed platform to use after the rear seats are removed. It's made of overseas shipping box 1/4" plywood. Also to give away are a set of steps to fit either back door also built using the same plywood and treated lumber. Bonus is the hammock interior protector. I'm sorry but my wife gave the bedding away already. I'm in the Gulf Shores area and really want another dog to be able to use this. Even today doing to the vet, Roxie was able to climb up and down the steps with me supporting her.

Post to the thread and give me a PM. I'll add pictures and links later.

    Thanks, Dan

Sorry for your loss. Never had dogs growing up due to some stupid allergies so it took a while to learn how they become a part of the family.

So sorry for your loss Dan. She was a beautiful pup. That is a really neat setup - perfect for a companion. I hope someone is able to put it to use.

I see you are from the islands. Part of our plan was to move to Moloka'i after Roxie passed away. Just love that island and the people there

Molokai!? There is literally nothing on Molokai. Go to Big Island. Big island is cheaper than Oahu or Maui, and there’s TONS of space. As an added bonus there’s also things to do, like visit an active volcano.

Sorry for your loss ... nice tribute to pass gear to another tundra dog.

Dogs give us so much joy but sadly their short life span means we must see them go.

Dan, I just read this and I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your family member. We need to get together sometime. Let me know if you are up in the central or northern part of the county, and I will see if I can make it down there sometime. We'll figure it out.

We had visitors all day yesterday stopping by to help comfort us. Roxie was loved by all here in the campground. We've kept her collar and given away almost everything else to the fellow campers here.

Her last night here she and I shared some time together watching the sun set over Bon Secur Bay. Me sitting in a lawn chair enjoying a Glenfiddich and her by my side just watching guard out over the calm waters. Always providing protection to her human family. Loyalty at it's best.

If there was anything positive to say about the experience at the vet it was how they took Roxie back to put in her IV. When she came back to the room we were in she was happy to see is. My wife, still wheelchair bound by her side and me laying on the floor beside her while the vet gave her the injections. Roxie just faded off to sleep showing no signs of pain, fear or discomfort. It's by far the best euthanasia experience one could hope for. Langston in Gulf Shores is handing all the cremation arrangements and will call us when her ashes are returned.

Sounds like the best case in an otherwise heartbreaking situation. We had a similar experience with our vet - makes all the difference in the world. Moreso for the puppy, but also puts us at ease.
