What Locking Hitch Pin Do You Use?
I have a 6x12 enclosed trailer and the locking hitch pin I have is kind of sloppy and I would like something better.
Preferably Stainless so no issues with rust.

 

I dont use them. The are Ok if you remove them after use and store them, but every one I have used, (stainless or not) that sits on the truck ends up rusting or otherwise locking up and end up needing to be cut off.

unfortunately they are not compatible with the push button start fob key

 

I use Bolt also. They have a YouTube video showing how to break it off along with a couple of competitors. Of course they won, but it only took 3 minutes or so.

I hadn't seen that video before. Like anything with trying to prevent theft, it is all about deterring the average thief and making it hard enough they move on to an easier target.

 

I keep one on all the time just to prevent my hitch cover from being stolen. I've used the Masterlock (shown in that video), was ok for a while but the anodizing faded (red to pink) and it eventually had to be cut off.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GB17XD7?ie=UTF8. The locksmith who cut the Masterlock off (was hoping I could get it off without), suggested to use Tri-Flow on them. Every once in a while spray it in the locking mechanism and the shaft and work it in. So I won't say the lock itself is better, but the maintenance is probably what helps.

I also have to laugh at that video, I've passed that marina many times on my bicycle .

 

Also use BOLT, no issues with 5yo ones that are outside 100% in the rain etc.

 

I use a Rhino one with weatherproof cover on it. Once a year I hit it with a dry lube in the locking mechanism, and my hitch covers I engrave quit wandering off.

 

I use marine grease 2-4-C grease and spray the lock (where the key goes in) with either

I had a hitch that was rusted so bad the shaft would not come out of the holder. Since then I protect the hitch with lots of 2-4-C. Salt water is a tough environment.

 

Factor 55 locking pin. Stainless and made in USA. Had it for a couple of years and tow a small toy hauler with no signs of wear on the pin. I'd try a pipe on it but don't want to know!

I have been using this for 14 years on 5 different vehicles. Never really cared for it and it’s been exposed to the salty winters here. In addition it has taken countless NYC love taps along with some large hits.

There is zero play when towing which is the initial reason why I bought it. I will never tow without one on my personal vehicles. It’s a much better experience.

Simply a great product that has more than proven itself in IMHO.

 

Call me cheap but I use a standard pin with two holes in the free end. One small hole for the hitch clip pin and a larger one for the padlock. Handy for me to have a handful of keyed alike padlocks to use on the trailer hitch and locking my ramps to the underside of my ATV trailer.

 

Sounds simple but effective. I am assuming you drilled the 2nd hole for the pad lock?

 

No, I did not. I just found it in my ever increasing junk pile. A quick search found one on Mcmaster Carr that had the lock hole but not the smaller hole for the hitch pin.
