Almost every night, a cat climb onto our cars on the driveway. Usually from the front of the car(hood). How to keep them from doing that? Scared it will scratch the paint with its claws one of these days!

A neighbor's cat would do that to my previous truck and it would go to sleep on the roof, well after a few soakings from the water hose it appears to have found a dryer place to sleep.

Cats are pretty smart. If you interrupt it hanging out on top of your cars enough times it will find a new place. Now if it's just walking over the top to go somewhere else that's a little more difficult.

Now while all of these guys suggestions are funny I do not condone hurting the cat. I am not against water hose though or vinegar.

You guys are comedians but I have a real problem! Trust me the pellet gun thing is what I first thought but I won't do that. Im not sure if it's someone's cat or a stray.

I honestly think the hose or a squirt gun would be the easiest and most humane. Lets not lie to ourselves, the kid in us all wants a reason to buy a sweet super-soaker.

I have the same issue but never witness the bastard(s). I only see the paw prints on the windshield and sometimes he/she slips down due to night/morning dew.

Get a truck cover. Help protect from the elements too. Or as TJ said, live trap and take to a shelter if not tagged.

At my old house cats would come in my back yard and dookie in my garden. I ended up buying a motion detecting sprinkler that would spray water when triggered - not only did it work in keeping the cats away but every once in awhile it would hit the kids, or my wife, and crack me up.

This might not be a good option for a vehicle that you want to keep the water spots off of, but you might be able to get one or two of them set up around the vehicle in such a way that the trigger when the cat is incoming and scare it off without actually hitting your vehicles.

I also don't condone actually harming the cat. Use a weak airsoft rifle instead of a pellet gun. ;)

Eh as much as I wax my truck, I wouldn't be worried about a couple of water spots.

My father shared with me why he thought this wasn't the best idea. He has a barn for car storage and barn cats for rodent control. He found that with the cover on the car, the cats were then using their claws for traction and they were protruding though the cover and scratching the finish. He found that putting thick blankets on top of the cover, on the hood, roof, and rear worked, but that would be impractical for a vehicle kept outside or one that was driven "frequently". YMMV

The problem is, you have to hit the cat while it's on your truck. Otherwise he'll just think you're a dick and shooting him for nothing. And it may take two or three times. I know you're not going to take a shot with anything while he's on your truck, too risky for your truck. And you going to camp out all night waiting for him? Leaves only one choice. Bear trap. No seriously, a cat trap sounds like a good idea.

Some water never hurt the truck and the cat will get the gist of the idea and find a dryer place to sleep.
