2009 tundra, orginal headlight just burnt out. Thinking about get LED , is there any specific ones to get or avoid? I read that some cause a error code for low voltage?

    Any feedback is appreciated

    Cost an issue?
Morimoto XB (I believe that's the correct model nomenclature) is a great LED replacement for the entire housing. About $1k
The OEM LED Sequoia headlights would also work. Not sure the pricing on these but I've read its almost twice the morimotos.

Most on here will call you names behind your back(not really) if you swap in "LED bulbs" to your current housings. There is a scatter concern doing this and blinding oncoming traffic. The bulbs with the least amount of scatter have consistently been the Philips Ultinon. I put them in my 2014 and they were decent. Never got flashed for blinding oncoming traffic either. Even had my wife drive the truck to try and see for myself and they weren't bad. Looking at about $250-300 for the 2 bulbs (last I recall).

Your best bet will be the Sequoias or Morimotos for performance. They're speedy, but absolutely worth the performance upgrade you get over stock halogens. Some wiring harness work might be necessary.

I ordered some from Carifex. I got lows, highs and fogs so they all match. No issues with low voltage. I had the same brand on my 4runner. They work great and look awesome. I don't care about scatter, brand new Toyota headlights blind oncoming traffic straight off the factory floor. I don't get flashed so it can't be that bad.

I like the Morimoto headlights quite a bit. Their light output is awesome and they really update the asthetics of the truck at the same time.

Tho my turn signals became inoperable on Wednesday and I've still not looked into it. Hoping it's just the fuse for the sequential flashers because all signals stopped simultaneously.

    Anyway, here's what everyone wants:

Fixed the blinkers. Wasn't just a finicky fuse:

One of their tiny wire harnesses cut the insulation on their corresponding leads.. leading to a short. Luckily I had a nice, waterproof replacement harness in my box of goodies which I was able to solder in.

Glad to have signals on the Tundie once again. While retaining the 'badassedness' that IS the Morimoto XB

I just had a headlight burn out on me too. 2012 that I just bought off my FIL this October. I replaced it with the cheapest Sylvania that Oreilly's had because I am saving up to replace the entire housing. Probably with Morimoto's from what I keep reading. :)

Hi all new guy here say the thread and had to share.

I bought my XB Morimoto's from 4wheel Parts about 4 weeks ago Part Number: MRILF533-A-ASM. They were on sale and I got them out the door for $846.00. I purchased the amber DRL model because of how bright and noticeable it makes your truck. I installed them in about an hour. Defiantly worth the money and a game changer in visibility. Plus they make my truck look awesome.

    My two cents:
    • The horizontal coverage is nice and wide (curb to curb +)
    • Beam pattern is far superior to the HD bulbs I had in the stock units, As advertised with 3 times+ brightness
    • Amber DRL's are super bright and don't get washed out in direct sunlight or setting sunlight
    • High beams are double the low beams in distance and produce double the brightness
    • Amber sequential turn signals are super bright and and eye catching for other drivers
    • They have the motors for beam adjustment when towing or hauling heavy loads
    • 5 year warranty
    • 100% plug and play
I know its only been a month and so far so good. I will send a picture when I get the truck cleaned up. Make sure you follow the final aiming and adjustment so you don't blind oncoming drivers. Now I need to upgrade my fog lights.

    Hope you found this helpful.

Great, well written post Mike. My 2010 has had headlight/foglight bulbs replaced one time since buying my truck new. I'm sure the lights are on "borrowed time." How much dis-assembly was required to replace yours with the Morimotos?

For a grand the Morimotos and lesser vlandswdont make a lot of sense. Get oem and save time and hassle.

If the xb’s were 700 or below I’d buy’em. But not at the current price.

The disassembly process was minimal. Removal of the painted filler panel directly below the headlight is a little delicate as you don't want to break it. Once removed its the removal of the three 10mm bolts at the brackets that hold the headlight assembly in place.

Take a look at the Instructions below, its really easy.

    https://www.4wheelparts.com/sku/Morimoto/standard/2007 2013 TUNDRA HEADLIGHTS.pdf

@Tundra1D6 I agree about the hefty price tag. I searched the internet and found that 4wheel parts was the only dealer that offered any reasonable discount. I thought about just getting the OEM housings and using LED bulbs, however by the time I added up all the cost I was roughly at $500. and a 1 year warranty on the bulbs.

For me getting a 5year factory warranty, incredibly bright LED headlights, DRL's on a 2012 and having the sequential turn signals I could not pass them up. Plus they look awesome.

Thanks for the info Mike. I'll probably go with the Morimoto kit when the time comes. No DRL's on my truck from the factory. I'd like to include them if possible, as long as they won't interfere with the 'Fog Light Mod' I've done.

Just finished installing mine. The biggest PITA was getting the old brittle connections off.

Thank you. They really make a huge difference --- my wife even said "wow, that truck looks completely different with them" and she typically doesn't say anything about any mod I do LOL. So apparently this mod is "Lady" approved.

Huge difference. Did you go with new LED bulbs or a complete fog light kit? I am thinking about upgrading mine also. Not sure to just do the LED bulbs or a complete swap.

Complete fog light kit and headlight kit. HUGE difference. Very pricey and took me a while to justify that much $$$ but honestly, made a huge difference.

Love my amber XB's. It really does transform the age of the truck. Great light output. Only issue I had was the worm gear for the headlight adjustment knob is backwards now. It was a known issue. For the price at the time I looked, OEM sequoia was 1.8k plus the under headlight trim pieces, plus paint vs 1.1k for the XBs it was a no brainer

So you can see running lights from a distance. I did the remote start so you can see the lights (was down at my boat making sure all is ok).

Seem nobody has mentioned alpharex yet. A very similar look to the Morimoto's at a fraction of the cost. I've had them installed for almost 8 months now with no issues to speak of. Good light output and I think I paid $400 for the set.

I'm on the right in the picture below. DRL are on. Next to what I think is a newer stock setup. (I also have Morimoto fog lights in this picture).

Heres a link to the ones in my picture: https://www.alpharexusa.com/product...ctor-headlights-black-without-level-adjuster/

    @chrisf111.

I looked at the Alpharex line and compared their performance with the Morimoto's. There were 3 main items I compared between the two.

The first item I noticed was the warranty. The Morimoto's is five years, that 3 years more than the Alpharex. The other item was the LUX readings with all three of the Alpharex Vs. the Morimoto XB. The Alpharex fell short of the output of the Morimoto XB. I like the look of the Alpharex, but I just felt the Morimoto XB was superior enough to go with it. I will say that for the budget the Alpharex is far less and you still get a good set of LED headlights.

Again this is just my 2 cents and I had the extra cash.
