Having a cord is definitely a pain, but having batteries is also I guess. This thing is pretty powerful, I was pleasantly surprised.

Haha. Different tuning than I thought lol.
So here’s where I’m at with it.
Great floors sent out a guy to measure everything, the sales lady just goes off that. The measure guy is who messed up. If anything I came out on top since she messed up on the first batch of tile she sold me and I got a deal on it. I need more tile so really my only issue is having to wait. I’m paying the normal price for it now for the 18sheets I’m short which is still astronomical for stupid tile but oh well. It’s one my wife and I could actually agree on. Luckily my tile guy will fit me in whenever I ask so it’s not like I have to reschedule with him for a way later date.

Joel, we used to have a similar issue with our two big oak trees in our front yard dropping leaves. The roof and gutters would get totally packed with leaves every fall/winter. I had some inexpensive leaf screening placed on top of my gutters and problem solved. What leaves blow onto our roof blow off with the changing of the wind day to day. Even the valleys clear up when the wind changes.

Thanks Ron - I need to put that on the top of my list of things to do. I’m freaking tired of digging crap out of the gutters.

Being in construction means I never work on my own home. My countertop has been long overdue for a replacement. Glued up, stained and polyurethaned some maple, grabbed a new sink and viola. Before and after.

Has anyone had success repairing a dryer? Our 7 year old Samsung dryer turns on and spins but isn't producing heat. I confirmed the vent is not clogged.

Trying to decide if it's worth fixing or if I should just buy a new one.

I just fixed my Samsung with the same issue 2 weeks ago. Bought this off Amazon and took about an hour to fix.

Thanks. Did you do any testing to determine it wasn't the thermal fuse? I've read the lack of heat could be a few different issues including the heating element.

I checked the vent like you did and checked the moisture sensors. When it wasn’t either one of those I decided to just go for it.

Edit: the part that I bought had the thermocouple’s pre installed on the side instead of just buying the element. I figured while I was there to replace the entire assembly.

Haven’t specifically done a Samsung dryer, but have rebuilt a Kenmore front loader twice and dryer once. When the main electronics boards went out (price was half of a whole new unit), that was when I decided it was time to just get new ones. Same with our old Kenmore dish washer - two heating elements and a pump over 14 years, then the control board shit the bed and we replaced it with a Bosch when we remodeled the kitchen.

The only appliance I wouldn’t tear into was our in-wall micro/oven when the micro went out. Used the service manual to determine that the cause was the magnetron failed, and didn’t want to go in there and short out the big capacitor or expose myself to anything. So we just got used to not having a microwave

My experience with dishwashers so far has been that you get what you pay for…at least with the major brands. I won’t pay the $$$ for the “high-end designer” stuff because I’m not into that (and often it’s more the brand than the quality it seems), but I do try to get the best I can afford. When we built our house in 2004, we bought a top-end Kenmore (about $900) and it was a really good dishwasher for about 11 years before the element went out, then the second element went out a year later, then the pump jammed up (I think someone tried to wash something with big chunks still on the dish and it got into the pump). Then we had an ice-storm cause a nasty power surge that fried the controller board in both the DW and the wash machine.

I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on a new one because we were talking about remodeling our kitchen anyway, so I went out and bought a “decent” spec’d Maytag at around $400. That thing was a fucking nightmare. Dishes were never fully clean unless you only half-filled it. The top rack started falling apart. A couple of times it wouldn’t drain correctly, but when I’d check things out the pump would run fine. Then the dryer heater element went out in it about 14 months after buying it.

By then, we were working on our design for the kitchen remodel and getting ready to pull the trigger on the cabinet order (quoted 16 week lead time) so we went ahead and sprung for the dishwasher early and got a Bosch with the hidden controls. We didn’t go for the top-top one they have, but managed to get a really good discount on one of the higher end ones at the time. It doesn’t have the grinder in the pump like a garbage disposal, but it does have a really good strainer/filter that we clean out about once every 6 months or so - just pull it out and rinse/backflush it in the sink. The Bosch are interesting in that they don’t have a traditional “dry” cycle (and don’t have a drying heating element in them) - this makes it possible to put plastic or ”top shelf safe” items pretty much anywhere inside. Instead, they just make the water hot as fuck and then when they drain that heat stays in the stainless walls a lot longer (due to how well insulated they are) and that works to dry the dishes as long as you don’t pull them out right away (I wouldn’t anyway - they are HOT). They do use the ever-living-shit out of Jet Dry though… The thing is also quiet…you don’t hear it running at all unless you notice the red light it projects on the floor (since it has no visible controls on the front).

As for selling/moving in a few years…I dunno. I’d probably still swing for a nicer dishwasher. 2-3 years of a shitty one would just aggravate me.

I’ve had three different Samsung dishwashers in the houses I’ve owned and I’ve been really happy with them. There’s a lot of Samsung appliance haters in here but I have had exactly zero issues with my suites of Samsung (it’s all I’ve ever bought) over the years. To echo what @Outbound said though, the entry level model of any brand is going to be garbage. I went for the Samsung that was one notch down from the top and it was great. All stainless interior, adjustable racks, great design for dish placement, and it actually got things clean. My favorite thing by far though, was that when the cycle was done, it would pop the door open automatically that way the dishes would dry all the way. I travel for work a lot and would always run the dishwasher on my way out the door and loved coming home to clean non-moldy dishes because the door popped itself open.

Now, all that said… the house I’m currently renting has a Bosch dishwasher from when the place was built in ‘09 and it cleans the hell out of some dishes. The water gets insanely hot, and it does a good job for what it is. It has some pitfalls though, it’s not energy efficient at all, it has only a couple programs it can run, the display is all messed up from years of use, and it takes 2.5 hours on its shortest regular cycle. But the damn thing still cleans dishes after almost 14 years, so…..

When I had to replace my dishwasher earlier this year Bosch was unavailable. Not long lead time, just no. I don't know the status now.
I ended up with an Asko that had a couple month lead time. It's pretty good, but I probably should have sprung anther grand for a Miele like I was replacing.

Had Samsung dishwasher in the last house for a few years with no issues. Samsung microwave (lower end stainless unit) would pretend to work, but not work due to a mal-adjusted door latch from the factory. Had to really push it close to get it to work. I tinkered with it and got it to work 95% of the time after an adjustment. Have a Samsung fridge that has not given us issues either. The fella at the appliance place told me he gets the highest number of complaints about Samsung and LG appliances and couldn't recommend them, even though they sold them. Bought a Kenmore induction stove and dishwasher, a Maytag over stove microwave and a set of Maytag W/D for the new to us house. Hope they all last. Really digging the induction stove. Heats up and cools off fast like cooking with gas, but it's all electric. Boils water in a minute and a half, doesn't care how much water or how big the pot is.

Burnt the last of the crusty old Marlboro flavored nicotine infused paneling from the house. Felt satisfying.

Ok so I finally got the bathroom vanity in where it needs to be. Trying to figure out what to do about a mirror.
Horizonal space is 48" wall to wall
Vertical space is about 40" from bottom of light box to top of faucet.
    IMG_4206.jpg
    IMG_4207.jpg IMG_4205.jpg

There will be the shower hexagon tiles that I'm going to use for a backsplash.

    I'm thinking either a 36" or 39" circle mirror or a 30"high x 40"wide soft corner rectangular mirror.

Unless it's a simple half bath for just guests....I'd go with rectangular. Circular loses a lot of mirror real estate

You guys are confusing function over form. The round mirror is where it’s at. I know this because I’ve hung three of them this month. Wifeys pick.
