I've always wondered about this. Are your houses built better up there? More insulation I assume? How do most people heat their homes? Can you get a decent selection of KY Bourbon up there? What about IPA's?

Report back on these and I'll have more questions for you.

I dunno if I'd say houses here are built "better" since I don't know enough about the building codes to compare them but they're definitely built different. Building codes and quality do vary from province to province too, and often from decade to decade. In my town, it's easy to tell whih neighborhoods were built during the boom time, slap em up quick days vs the days when they took more time and care.

Here in Alberta, attic insulation here will be around R49 - R60 as standard which is 14" - 25" depending on the insulation type iirc. I think it was @TaquitoBandito who mentioned his tankless water heater is outside his house, which is something that blows me away. Stuff like that goes inside a house in Canada. Double and often triple pane windows are standard in newer homes in Alberta.

Heating methods vary alot depending on region. Much of British Columbia heats with electricity. Most of Alberta heats with natural gas, my house for example has a gas furnace, range, fireplace and tankless water heater with electricity only being for lights and outlets. Out east, heating oil is still pretty common from what I hear. Alot of people in more rural areas or smaller towns also have a wood burning fireplace as a secondary or back up heat source.

KY bourbon can be had here, at least most of the big names. I have a bottle of Woodford Reserve in the cupboard right now. Ones like Buffalo Trace, Knob Creek and others are commonly available though the selection of smaller companies available is tiny compared to the US. There's a pretty big craft brewing culture in Canuckistan so IPAs and other craft beers are super easy to come by. I live in a small city of under 70,000 and we have at least 2 distilleries and 2 or 3 craft brewers locally.

I actually ended up burning it one day……. On purpose……. But not willingly
So when I cut them off I had a big dread cutting party(hahaha is it Friday?) and invited all my friends; to cut off a dread and keep it if they were weird enough, or leave it for me to save and then make into a sweet beanie later on. Some people that kept their clipping, made them into key chains, or some pinned them on their tack board. It was quite the night!!!

Are you north or south of I-10? That will determine the validity of how "southern" you are

Growing up In Illinois we always said you were “south” if you were south of I-80.. but that’s where all the river rats lived. I’ve also never really found any evidence to dispute that stance though.

I grew up south of I-10 and lived that way for 30 years. Then moved into our new house that is 3 miles north of I-10. I'm about the same as you it seems....just on the Cajun side of the spectrum
Only bad part of the "south or I-10" rule is unfortunately New Orleans is part of that. That septic toilet bowl needs a bunch more clorox and flushes

    Let’s send tide pods!

also a lot of people like to hate on our valley, but it is truly something unique, I can tell you like where you live. I really love where I live and I don’t know if I’d live anywhere else. We have a lot of super bizarre stuff here, which I’ve only seen a small fraction of and hope to see as much as I can while I’m still breathing.
