Does anybody that came from a car or midsize suv to a full size truck get overwhelmed?

    i bumped up from a 2020 Tacoma 2.7 DCSB SR5 to a 2022 Crewcab Tundra 6.5 bed.

and boy it’s quite a difference. Idk or it could just be me.

What are the differences that are overwhelming you?

I came from a Tacoma but it was a crew cab and the 22’ feels like a supersized Tacoma.

Not being able to go into some or most drive thrus. Having to park further out. More cautious and weary during turns.

Miss the Tacoma sometimes. But the gas mileage and motor in comparison to the tundra is an all over larger vehicle with same gas mileage due to the TT 3.4

MPG for both vehicle is very similar. Who wouldn’t go to a tundra when you can get all that for the same MPG is why I got it.

I had and fj a long time ago and went through what you’re talking about . After being in full size trucks for a bit I rode in a Tacoma and man it felt tiny . Give it time and re evaluate . You might realize that you’ve been missing out

Not sure why you can’t navigate a drive though. I have yet to see an issue with doing that in a 1 ton diesel. Same 80.5” width. You will have to learn how to drive with a little finesse and use all the space offered.

The drive thru thing and other tight spaces you wil get the hang of. Unless you are simply too tall for the DTs in your area, all of mine seem, to take about 9.5-10'. Turning radius i feel fine on a 2.5. Does the 3rd turn wider?

My driver test was in a 79 F100 Ranger, 3 (auto) (I wasn't trusted with the clutch yet). Then i went to cars for many years, thought, hell i learned in a FS truck... got in one... yeah learned again. Swapping for a few years will reintroduce the learn, but the curve gets shorter.

Get some miles on her, maneuver her around a few lots, do the backup and go thing in a few DTs at night after close, drive through a couple car wash stalls when not busy.

Continue to park further out. Forever. It greatly reduces idiots hitting your truck then driving off and ruining your day.

I went from a midsize sport sedan to my Tundra back in 2007. Yes it was a change, but after a week or two of driving I adjusted and so will you.

I switched to my Tundra from a 16' box truck, so it's pretty small to me. haha
I hear what you're saying though. Give it some time and you'll get more comfortable with the size.

What you get used to. I have had fullsize 1500s or 2500s as daily driver for 22 years. Every other thing I drive feels like a little red wagon or a Shriner clown car. The interior space is what I can't give up.

It took my a full year to switch from midsize Volvo to Tundra. It helped a lot that Volvo blew up its engine right in the wilderness trip. I got back home without one cylinder, loaded up the Tundra and went up north. Where I realized Tundra is a more capable offroader, my Coleman tot does not fit in 6'5" bed, but I can sleep just fine in the rear bench.

Just get a lift kit on it and bigger tires and you will be fine / curbs stop mattering as much and you will sit up a bit higher. :benchpress:

Honestly, you will get used to it. I came out of an Audi A7…but before that had a 2014 Tundra 1794 lifted 4”, so knew what to expect.

The crewmax with a 6.5 bed is a long truck ( sitting next to my employees 1 ton Chevy long bed I was shocked at how close it was to the same size.). It will take getting used to and small parking lots are fun, turning radius isn't great on the these guys either. You will get used to it learn the tricks of parking a bigger truck. I have worked on big trucks as a career for years so I am pretty comfortable moving a big vehicle around but there is a learning curve.

I will tell you in my opinion and comments I have gotten, long box with some big tires and a lift. That looks like a F****ing truck man!!

I’m trying to overcome the opposite experience, coming from a Raptor which is 6” wider I’m used to hugging the left side of the lane and pulling in wide when parking, my wife laughs at me when it takes me two to three times to center my truck when parking even with the camera, I feel like I’m new to driving

Great looking truck! I’ve had small sporty cars for my whole life up until purchasing my Tundra in April and agree that there is an adjustment period. I remember feeling like my wife’s Ford Escape was big when getting in it compared to the cars I’ve had! Now with my Tundra, I drive more patiently, especially when driving on tight city streets. Using mirrors is essential when parking and can also help when pulling through a drive through. Give it a few months and you will adjust! Benefits of having a larger vehicle outweigh the negatives for me. Biggest thing I miss is having a manual transmission. My dream is for Toyota to eventually add that option to the third gens!

I drove an Accord for 30 years. Bought a Tundra just because I wanted a truck. No need for a truck. Absolutely luv’d cruising down the highway and the interior room. The rest of my ownership experience ranged from Luke warm to dreadful. Washing was a chore. Parking was never easy and it was always in the way at our house. Mileage was acceptable when gas was $1.69. Close to $4 it was dreadful. Nobody else would drive it. Thinking of future maintenance costs made me frown. Traded it in on a new CRV that in reality is the perfect vehicle for my lifestyle. Now if I needed a truck or was into modding a truck as a hobby? Yeah, Tundra all day everyday and twice on Sundays.

Funny. I have a DBLB Tacoma (with a mild lift), when I test drove the Tundra (capstone no less, all they had) it was a bit tighter on the road and the nose... my gosh the nose of it.
But with anything in time you get used to it all. You'll know where you bumpers start and end.

I went from a compact SUV to my current truck and it's incredible how much more spacious it is, a much bigger vehicle. Going back to the escape at times I wonder how I got on before, it's so small and low to the ground. My mileage is only a little worse though, I'm of the same mind as you. If the operating expenses are the same, why not go bigger? It's a safer vehicle too, being heavier.

There’s definitely trade-offs with a crew cab 6 1/2 foot bed. My current F150 is configured like that and has 157 inch wheelbase similar to the tundra and its no gymnist. But I think the 6 1/2 foot bed makes it more stable towing and I can also fit mountain bikes in the back without needing to lay them over the tailgate which means they’re locked underneath my topper, secure and protected from the elements.

also, if you’re in the truck camping, you can build a platform and likely fit two of those Home Depot foam mattresses in a 6 1/2 foot bed. I did that for a while and they fit perfectly so it was like having a queen size bed camping.

It’s certainly not fun to drive in tight parking lot but I have a Lexus GX as my other vehicle which has 109 in wheelbase so that’s what typically gets used if we know we’re going anywhere tight

I’ve rented several crew cab 5 1/2’ bed trucks and they are a bit more maneuverable. My dad’s Expedition EL is based on the F150 but is only like a 131” wheelbase and its so nimble. I laugh at my dad when he complains about the size

I went from a 97 ex-cab Tacoma to a 2014 Tundra. 1st full size I've ever owned. You eventually get used to it. Backing in parking spots is your friend. My slight gripe with my 22MY is it doesn't cut as tight as the 19MY I traded. Partly because this new truck is longer being CM 6.5. Love my truck though

I was worried about this coming from a Tacoma but I found out quickly with the cameras parking is a lot easier with this larger truck.

Haven't found a drive through I couldn’t fit through easily. That might be a personal problem.

I can only assume you will get used to it. This his my 4th full size truck and I can't recall a drive through or garage I haven't made it through on stock rims/tires. There's been a pharmacy drive through or two I folded my mirrors for, to make me feel better, but probably didn't need to.

The drive thrus that put in tight concrete curbing or tons of cone poles are tough for long wheelbase vehicles. That is usually Chuck FIL A who is trying to make more lanes to handle their volume. My local Chickie just made 2 lanes out of one and making the first turn at bldg corner is rough

This is one reason I like 17” wheels and 35’s. The wheels are sitting up above the curbs lol
